    Lancashire Homebrewing Club

We have had a new group in Lancs going for 3 meetings now, with the next meeting on Sunday 18th March. We move about from month to month, so far we've been to Preston, Leyland and Lancaster, with this month in Lytham. We're steadily getting a turnout of around a dozen or so brewers. We have a...

    Pro-tip when discussing temperatures...

The keyboard shortcut for the degree symbol in Windows is alt+248. So press and hold the alt key, then type 248 on the numerical keypad, not the top row of numbers, then when you release the alt key you will have the ° symbol. Good eh?

    "Dry Hop 0 Days"... What?

I get what it means when a recipe says Dry Hop 7 days or 5 days or whatever, but if it says 0 days, what does that mean? Stick them in your bottling bucket and they get half an hour max? Stick them in a few hours before you bottle? Stick them in the night before you bottle? How do...

    Mangrove Jacks Range Changes

Has anyone got the list of the changes that MJ made to the range? I know that M03 Newcastle Dark Ale was changed to M15 Empire Ale, but I don't know the others. I remember seeing a list of the changes on the internet somewhere, but I can't find it again now.

Might make a couple of DJs of cider, but I haven't got any cider yeast. I have got ale yeast and I've also got some wine yeast. Are any of these any good or should I actually get proper cider yeast? Also, I've got some pectolase, do I add that at the start? Do I need owt else?

    British Hop Bomb Beers

I was just think this morning (bad news when you're thinking about beer in the shower at half five), is there any really big hoppy beers that use just British hops? So like a IIPA or something that uses British rather than American hops. I'm sure there must be, but I just can't think of one...

    WLP090 San Diego Super Yeast

Anyone used it? Mean to be a super-quick and pretty violent violent US west coast style yeast. Just wondered how it is and if there is any point if you still have to leave it a week to clear itself up. Anyone got any experience of it?

    Munton's Propino Malt

Anyone used this base malt before? I'd heard it's paler than MO and better suited to American styles due to being a bit less 'bready'. Any first-hand accounts?

I'm going to ask a stupid question here...

...if you use cornie kegs, do you still need to prime your beer after its finished fermenting, or does the CO2 you attach carb it up instead? I don't know if the CO2 just pushes the beer out of the keg or if it carbs it as well. :)

How does this APA recipe look?

OK gents, looking at doing this in the next couple of weeks and want a bit of opinion on it. Do you reckon ahtanum and mosaic will go together ok or will the mosaic drown the ahtanum a bit? Also, thinking of adding a third hop into the mix... maybe some nelson sauvin, but wasn't sure if that...

I might have just turned someone...

... Onto brewing. My brother in law came round with my niece earlier and I offered him a beer, he accepted and a pulled 2 bottles of my centennial brown ale from the fridge. I could see his face as he thought to himself "oh sh*t". As soon as he tasted it, he said he was amazed how...

Quick, Easy, Summery Brew - HELP ME!

We've booked a holiday at the beginning of June, we go away on Saturday the 4th. We're off with friends and kids to Wales for a week and I have been asked to bring some of my beers along. To be honest, me and my mate depleted my stocks quite severely this weekend when we had a barbecue, so I...

    Anyone near an FV bucket?

If anyone is at home and could measure the diameter and height of an average FV, that would be great. There's a fridge going the journey from the brew room at work and I'm wondering if it'll do as a brew fridge. It's an integrated on so a bit on the smallish side.
