    Albums of the Year 2022

There’s been a few music threads on here, so thought I’d see what everyone thought were the best albums of the last year. My Top 5 is as follows: Frank Turner - FTHC Bob Vylan - …Presents The Price of Life SG Goodman - Teeth Marks Rayland Baxter - If I Were a Butterfly Dune Rats - Real Rare Whale

A series of user upper brews

I’m starting a thread to make sure I actually do these user upper brews instead of buying more and more ingredients and ending up having to bin them. Last autumn I inherited a load of hops and a little grain from someone who was moving away. The grain is all used now, but I still have loads of...

    New Fermzilla with Trai-clamp fittings

Stumbled across this video on social media earlier, looks pretty impressive: Looks as if it will be easy to dismantle and clean.

    Reusing yeast from a Fermentasaurus

I’ve been fermenting in a Mk1 Fermentasaurus for a while, but I always just discard the yeast afterwards. However, I’ve been using liquid yeast for English ales, and have recently bought a Mexican lager yeast (currently fermenting) and a NEIPA yeast in the fridge and was hoping to reuse both of...

    Brulosophy Home Brew Survey 2021

This has been published today https://brulosophy.com/2021/09/30/2021-general-homebrewer-survey-results/?fbclid=IwAR1r048tb8lcXvaUks1CItGjOPg30-HHLp16dLfYwtEJD5L88wBLs_oBf60 Obviously it’s mainly targeted at the American market (63% of respondents are American) but quite interesting. Surprised...

Accidentally froze my Wyeast - is it f**cked?

Just went to dry hop my latest brew, and discovered that my London Ale III that I was going to use for my next brew was sitting right at the back of the hop/yeast/bottle shelf of the kwgerator and had a couple of big bits of ice in it. It’s use by the end of the month as well. Can someone put...

    CAMRA at it again

To paraphrase - the CO2 shortage is a risk to pubs and breweries when many are already in the brink, but if everyone just drank cask ale it wouldn’t be a problem. They are rightfully getting pelters on Facebook over this, but their diehards are still desperate to defend them.

    September Competition - American Pales

I’m the judge for this month’s competition. American Pales is pretty self explanatory (although I will accept black IPAs). PM me for my address if you’d like to enter - entries should reach me by 30th September.

    Grainfather Electric Grain mill

Just been released on MaltMiller https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/product/the-grainfather-electric-grain-mill/ It’s not clear from the listing whether MM are including the bamboo mounting with it or if it’s sold separately. The videos imply it’s included but the listing looks like it’s...

    Brewdog in trouble again

This time for advertising their competition claiming they had hidden “solid gold” cans worth £15k in their multipacks, when the reality is they were gold plated brass valued professionally by the winners and being worth about £500. Brewdog claim the wording was an “error”...

    Sh*t beer!

https://www.timeout.com/news/this-beer-is-made-with-goose-poop-if-youre-into-that-kind-of-thing-061521 It’s not as disgusting as it sounds, the goose poop is just being used as fuel to smoke the malt.

    WLP400 - Belgian Wit - Long ferment

Does anyone know if this yeast has a long ferment time or a K-97esque reputation for a stubborn krausen. Ive brewed 4 wits before, and they’ve been some of the best beers I’ve brewed but I’ve always just used MJ M21. This is being entered to the MM/Elusive competition so I thought I’d use a...

    Oxidised commercial beer?

I got a flavourly box this week and tonight I’m having the Kviek pale from Hilden brewery. I don’t know if I’m going mad or not, but I think it’s oxidised. It has an odd Sherry flavour going on and the “healthy dry hop” of Vic secret is almost undetectable. I’m pretty sure it has discolouration...

Best place to buy mixed cases of beer online?

I’ve ran out of Homebrew! I’ve been using up my stocks ready for my garage being converted into a 2nd living room (with bar) and now I’ve got no beer, and the room won’t be ready for another week so I’m looking at about another month before I’ll have Homebrew ready. I’ve been drinking...

Removing a post form a corny

Is there a special tool I need for this? What does everyone else use? To cut a long story short I’ve managed to rip one of the post seal o-rings cleaning my keg today. I’ve tried my entire socket set (none of them are long/deep enough to reach the bottom) and every spanner in my toolbox and...

    Black in my starter

I’m going to start a “is everything ok?!?!?!?” thread. I have crashed my lager yeast starter overnight to do a second step tonight/tomorrow for a brew on Sunday/Monday. big black bits have settled on the bottom. Given I’m a relative newbie to liquid yeast is this normal? The yeast is Omega...

100+ Bottles, Bottling Tree and Bottle rinser

Now I’m kegging I don’t need most of my bottles, or my bottling tree or bottle rinser. There are 104 bottles in the picture but I might have more depending how many I drink before they are picked up. These bottles are free for whoever wants them. I also have a bottle tree (Holds 50) and bottle...

    Austrian Horner Beer

https://apple.news/APYkMxNO7RNWMWSZcFRL0Mg This article came up on my Apple News feed the other day and I thought it sounded very interesting. It’s the second article I’ve seen on this beer style in the last couple of weeks, and it was Mozart’s favourite beer apparently. Sounds like an...

    Scottish National Home Brew Comp

Entries opened at 9AM today. Event is 31 January 2021. I’ve booked 2 entries which, at the moment, I plan to make a Munich Helles and my APA. It’ll only be the second competition I’ve ever entered after the 2018 Welsh National...
