GrowlingDog Throw it in a pan BrewDay

Tomorrow I shall be brewing, there may even be some photos as I tidied the garage today. I've just sorted out the grain bill, based on what needs using up. 42 Litre Brew Length 6kg Crisp Pale Malt 1kg Wheat Malt 1kg Vienna .6kg Oat Malt I'll think about the hops overnight, but Experimental...

    Brew day disasters.

I have made a few minor updates to the brewery over the last couple of weeks. It all started with the addition of a plate chiller, and while at it I picked up a pile of Cam Lock fittings to make all the hose connections easier to move about. I also got a Y filter to put on the boiler to stop...

    Solar pump power supply help

I've just bought a solar pump to recirculate the liquid in my HLT as I'm getting uneven temperature in there at the moment. What sort of power supply should I use, ideally one that let's me control the flow if that's possible. Any top tips.

    CO2 regulator replacement washer

I need to replace the washer that goes between my CO2 gas bottle and the hose that connects to my Gas board. Anyone know where I can get such a washer, I have tried Googling but to no avail. Thanks

    Show us your brewery

Mine all started here with a 30 litre HLT, and Boiler, with cool box mash tun all wrapped up mid brew. This was during my first ever All Grain Brew, GWs Exmoor Gold. After a few updates we got to here. So come on, let's see your set up. Don't be shy.

Steve put's a brew on - Growling Darkness.

I can't remember the last time I documented a brew day so here goes. By the power of modern technology I am going to make beer and try and write it up as I go. There are a few pictures along the way. So it's time for a brew. First job is filling the HLT and get that heating up. The feed...

    Homecoming Stout 30/09/2012

I have finally got back home, and this time it should be for a while. In my brief stopovers home I have been slowly getting through supplies, and I am now down to less than 5 cornies with beer in them. I have 6 empty ones, which really need filling up. First brew for a few months so I was...

    I'm back :)

Hi all, after a longer than expacted hiatus in the Middle East I am finally home. Cold here isn't it. ;) Glad to be back, I've missed the beer. Good to come home to 7 cornies of very well conditioned beer though. I've just put a pilsner in the kegerator, its been lagering since October and is...

Brew like a Monk - Stan Hieronymos

I like Hieronymus' style of writing, it's easy to read and follow, and the book flows well. Brew Like a Monk is a combination of a history of monastic brewing, along with some info about each of the main breweries and the processes they follow. It looks at each of the Trappist breweries in...

Yeast - Chris White with Jamil Zainasheff

I didn't really have much of an understanding of yeast when I bought this book, actually I knew very little at all. My yeast usage in brewing up until this point had involved opening a pack of US-05 or S-04 and sprinkling it on the wort and then leaving it for a week or 2 to do it's work. What...

AG#34 Growling Anniversary IPA with piccies

As it was my Wedding Anniversary yesterday, it was a good excuse to make a beer today. It's going to be a late start due to the fact we went to an Italian Restaurant last night and I drunk far too much Grappa. I will update as I go, hopefully with some pictures as well. Growling Anniversary...

    Which Camlocks do I need.

I have decided it is time to get some Camlocks and do the job properly. To keep things simple I plan to put the male part of the Camlock on all my hoses, and the female part on all the fittings. My fittings I need to connect to are either 1/2 F x F Ball valves, or 15 mm compression fittings...

Beer Fest, Station Arms, Southminster, Jan 27th - 29th

I am planning on popping along to the Beer festival at the Station Arms, Southminster in a couple of weeks time. It's only a small festival but it's easy for me to get to as I can get a direct train from Wickford. I will be going on the Friday night, anybody joining me...

What temperature for a Pilsner Yeast starter?

I have some WLP800 pilsner yeast. What temperature should I make the starter at. Should it be at lager fermenting temp, which I may struggle to maintain unless I put the stir plate in the fridge, or can I make the starter at normal room temp. Thanks

    Getting Lager Crystal Clear?

I plan to brew another Pilsner, this time for a garden party which will be happening in the summer. I have made a few before, so am fairly comfortable with the recipe. Brew Length 45 Litres OG 1.051 IBU 27 ABV 5% Grain 10Kg Weyermann Floor Malted Bohemian Pilsner Malt Hops 40g Northern...

    AG 31 Forest Fruit Mild

OK, so today I thought I'd make a Mild with a load of fruit in it, was this a good plan or wasn't it, not sure yet. The Original Recipe was here viewtopic.php?f=14&t=20473 but I did tweak it a bit. The result for a 60 Litre Brew Length was 8.5Kg Lager malt 2.5Kg Caramalt 1Kg Oat Malt 1Kg...

    AG 31 Forest Fruit Mild

For my next brew, whilst running very low on ingredients I thought I'd make use of some of the Blackberries I grew this year. I would welcome any opinions, particularly on the amount of Blackberries I am putting in, do you think it will be enough? Or is it too much? Thanks Blackberry Mild...
