    Bulldog, Evil Dog Double IPA

If it is your first time for this kit I would follow the instructions to the letter. I always do this first time on a kit - then you get a good impression of where the kit ranks in the scheme of things. If you start off with modifications then you don't know if it was your tinkering that messed...

    Bulldog, Evil Dog Double IPA

Interesting idea - let me know how it goes, I will be interested to know what you think of your end product. I've still not started this one yet was doing some research on what other yeasts I could use (I have still got no bright ideas ). I'm about to start a batch of Festival Suffolk...

    Bulldog, Evil Dog Double IPA

I've brewed this one twice before. The first time ABV 7.1% on the box and 23g yeast sachet (a mystery yeast - not labelled) second time ABV 7.5% on box and a 10g yeast sachet ( I think it said yeast was - Pacific ale). Unfortunately, I got very different results. The first was a top, top brew...

Evil Dog double IPA - confusion!!

Thanks for that suggestion, it is not one I had considered, but that could well explain it. My thoughts were that 1.061 could theoretically give up to 8% ABV. I will go with the 7.5% they suggest when I come to dilute it down. Thanks again!

Evil Dog double IPA - confusion!!

Just started another (was probably my favourite to date) Evil Dog kit. I am confused by fact that it says on the packaging that it is now 7.5% ABV. It was 7.1% ABV last time I brewer it. I have kept batch # to prove it. However, it now says Evil Dog is now 7.5% ABV versus 7.1% on old...

Gluten free & wheat free grains

Saw on the news only yesterday that Australian researchers have developed a gluten free barley strain that can be used to make gluten free beer. This could potentially revolutionise the beer market for celiac's. As apparently the beer produced using this barley tastes pretty much identical to...

Festival Landlords finest Bitter - hopping

Thanks for the responses, most helpful. Hops been in for three days now (day 8) and already down to SG 1009. Will see if it drops some more before bottling. I can really taste the hops coming through (taste from hydrometer sample jar). So think the tea bag has done the job OK, and I'm pleased...

Festival Landlords finest Bitter - hopping

OK arrived at day 5 and instructions recommends adding the hops, to the brew. Activity has fallen off and SG 1012 so seems reasonable to add the hops, only I don't have second FV to use (it recommends adding hops then filtering into second bucket). So I used the muslin bag provided as a...

Back to HB after 25 year break

Thanks again Redron, I will probably do a few more kits, till I've got the hang of things and then branch out and try AG with the Landlord clone (when I've got time to throw a full blown dinner party). I'll look at the Worcester Hop Shop it sounds interesting and I'll continue to read the...

Back to HB after 25 year break

Thanks Redron and MyQul, That is a great welcome. Yes my home location is Ilkley, LS29. My favourite bottled/cask beer is Tim Taylors Landlord so bang on the money there too! I was not expecting to be able to brew a beer that tastes that good - although someone suggested a kit that comes close...

Back to HB after 25 year break

Just joined this excellent forum. Came back to HB a bit by chance after a 25 year break. Started brewing with my dad many moons ago and lost the art after leaving college. Got to say from the few kits I've done since I got back into it at the end of last year, the quality of both the beer...
