    Brewing software evaluataion

I have been a BeerSmith user for a couple of years and this week my license expire. I am in two minds if I should renew the license or not. This post basically became a massive rant with my frustration with the BeerSmith program. I understand if most people cannot be bothered reading through it...

    Mash schedule unmalted wheat

The recipe I brewed today was: Pilsner malt: 45% Unmalted wheat: 45% Flaked oats: 10% 30 min @ 50-55 C. Then a mash at 65 for about 75 min. Efficiency wise I got 75%. I am doing BIAB. So the brew day so far went OK. Lets see how it will turn out when its done!

    Mash schedule unmalted wheat

I am making a Belgian Wit tomorrow and I am using unmaleted wheat that was crushed by the store. The pilsner malt came in one bag and the unmalted wheat togehter with flaked oats came in a second. I am unsure how I should mash this? Since the brew shop gave me the grains in different bags I...

How do you measure mash temp reliably?

I missed I got so many replies, sorry guys, and thank you! One think I have not been doing is ramping up the temp. How do you measure mash temp reliably?

Hello! Never thought the day would come where I would ask this. But as I have had problem to get FG down to where I want it lately I thought it would be interesting to hear how you get a reliable result? I have done about 65 all grain batches by now and thought I would had nailed it by now, but...

Brewing west coast saison with WLP400?

Thanks for your reply. Looks like my supplier is all out of stock of Saison Yeast... Might have to got with the WLP400 anyway and hopefully that will be get close enough. Safale BE-134 yeast is available but I have never had good experience using dry yeast. Tried about 5 times and made 40...

Brewing west coast saison with WLP400?

So a summer party is coming up (1 month - bottling) and I have almost dried out! I have never brewed a saison but I wanted to try out a similar beer this time. To reduce the chance of stalling traditional saison yeast, I am planning using WLP400 for a more secure and rapid fermentation. Just...

    Efficient chilling method?

Yeah, I can try and slow down the waterflow, would reduce the water consumption for sure without loosing to much performance.

    Efficient chilling method?

Thanks for your response. I was very close to build a counterflow chiller myself, but since I move so much, i went with the smallest option. Yeah I think you are right, its not quite up for the job. I am curious to what setup is necessary to be able to chill 15-20 liters to 20C in 10-15 min as...

    Efficient chilling method?

Hi all, I have always found that chilling the wort is the step with most hassle and I am looking for advice to improve performance. I usually do a 22 liter batch size and I am currently using a 12 plate counter flow chiller. The water pressure is decent but it is still taking me 30...

Water report with both HCO3 and CaCO3

It's sure tricky! Ironically I had some water chemistry calculations in my degree, but not really targeted for Brewing :P But thankfully I have an OK overall understanding of it. Still find it tricky though when used for brewing and adjust it for you need and how to read water chem reports as...
