Yeast nutrient - should i bin it?

Did a WOW yesterday and had a tub of nutrient on stand by in case i didn't have enough in the present tub, which as it turns out i had plenty. When i shook the new tub i thought that it felt a bit solid so opened it to see what it was like. It had in fact set like a clump of sugar you sometimes...

    Cloudy wine when chilled.

I have done a few WOW RGJ & apple and all have been okay. My latest batch has all cleared nicely before bottling and remain so until I put a bottle in the fridge. Within a couple of hours the wine has clouded up again. This has happened with a couple of bottles and when removed from the fridge...

    Chocolate malt amount

I realise it is probably down to personal taste but how much steeped chocolate malt would be considered to much in a 10l extract brew before it becomes unpleasant. Making a concoction before a few bits and bobs go out of date.

    Lidl red grape juice

If you use Lidl red grape juice in your WOWs and enjoy it and your local Lidl has some in stock buy it quick 'cause they are stopping selling it. There was none in my local store today and what looked to be a manager type bod told me they will no longer be selling it. I assumed this is...

    s30 valve malfunction

Wondering if any of you had had this problem. Bought a new Hambleton Bard refill today and when screwed onto the s30 valve nowt is happening. Cylinder is full, checked by pressing center pin, and s30 valve worked perfectly with previous cylinder. Its as if the cylinder is not screwing far enough...

Beer that goes bang in the night

After reading clibits excellent post for simple AG brew i decided to give it a go a couple of days ago. Kept it simple (and cheap) 1kg Maris Otters, Target hop pellets (reduced), Wilkos yeast and off i went. It all went well and managed to get a reasonably full, but not to full imo, demijohn...

    Yeast compatability

I have now brewed 8-9 kits and have enjoyed drinking them all, some more than others. My problem is i only have enough room to store one full brew in bottles and one in a keg though both brew are mainly not fit to drink at the same time although they may overlap at the end/start of one batch. It...

    2 can kits v 2 can brew

Having had reasonable success with my single can brews (even the Coopers AIPA i was unsure about seems to now be going ok) i was thinking of moving on and trying a 2 can kit, presuming these are superior in some way. Are these 2 can kits basically just 2 single cans of the same extract or are...

    O.T.T. Coopers I.P.A. O.G.

Just done the Coopers IPA from Wilkos today. At 23ltrs the recipe calls for 1.5kgs Light Dry Malt. This is my 4th brew and the last 2 brews i have done, not Coopers, i have used brew enhancer so decided to go the same route again using 1kg plus 500g of brewing sugar that i had lying about. I...

    Vented pressure barrel

I have just inherited a pressure barrel. The cap is vented to let gas out but not air in. When i come to draw beer from the barrel will i need to loosen the cap to allow beer out or will the build up of pressure allow the beer out?

    Low O.G.

Just started my 3rd batch of beer. The 1st two from Wilkos (stout & bitter) having turned out good, especially the stout, given the far from ideal brewing condition. Just to refresh i live on a boat so temp control is nigh on impossible. This 3rd batch is the Ritchie's Simply Bitter. I have...

Hello from wherever i happen to be!

Hi all and thanks for the add. Sorry about the vagueness of my location but i live on a narrow boat so i have NFA though i am originally from the Rochdale area. When i was land based i did have a little dabble with home brewing with varying degrees of success and failure. Back then i was...
