Building a dedicated brewing space in my garden...

It's been a while, but the brewery is nearing phase 1 'completion' now. We'll be brewing live tomorrow night (7pm BST) on YouTube, the video will show up below but feel free to go subscribe so you get a notification (and also because it helps us out a lot in the long run!)

LIVE Brewday: Royal Frankenbrew – 17th May 2018 7pm BST

Hi all, With a couple of live brews streams under my belt, it's about time we took it a bit more seriously and let people know in advance! This brew will be a bit of a thrown together recipe of all the British and American grains and hops we have lying around at the brewery in celebration of...

    SMaSH (Maris Otter & Cascade)

Our first indoor brew, following our ongoing brewery build which you can follow here if you're so inclined. Looking forward to getting this out of the fermentor this weekend and into the keg for a while before serving :)

Building a dedicated brewing space in my garden...

Just a small update. Didn't blow up when I finally plugged the (temporarily housed) control panel into the 32a feed. Control Panel v0.0001 by HAHB posted Mar 27, 2018 at 11:25 AM

Building a dedicated brewing space in my garden...

A bit of a meatier bit of progress this time around. It almost looks like a brewery, right? View part 4 here

Building a dedicated brewing space in my garden...

Thanks :) Getting there of course. The electrics are done (just hanging back off the wall in that video for painting), and I'm not actually doing any plumbing in this first build – budget had to be stopped somewhere so I will have to do a bit of water lugging in the early days. Ceiling should...

Building a dedicated brewing space in my garden...

A little longer than I'd planned this to be out, but here's part three: [EDIT: ORIGINAL VIDEO DELETED, UPDATED BELOW] Motivation please!

I like the idea of grey. Channelling a bit of Counting Crows, but it's probably my favourite colour... Appreciate the recommendation – not sure I'll stretch to the extra expense of that stuff but I'll definitely have a good think about it. In terms of the vents, I'm closing them for now, but...

Building a dedicated brewing space in my garden...

I was thinking more about the water resistance of kitchen/bathroom paint, but that’s just gut feeling. I prefer a matt look, but I’m just conscious of it being a wooden building full of steam.

Building a dedicated brewing space in my garden...

I feel your pain! I did some more boarding up on Sunday and I'm still pulling out splinters now! Just got to put the ceiling up in the brewery now and then I'll be getting some kitchen/bathroom paint on to seal it. Then one episode can be about paint drying, yay!

Building a dedicated brewing space in my garden...

Just pushed the button on a similar fan to the one in my last post, as well as enough plastic and various ducting bits to make it happen. Also just pushed go on the insulation and OSB to get the place ready for paint and the like. Exciting!

Building a dedicated brewing space in my garden...

All very useful, thanks. The issue I have is that a stainless commercial style hood is very much out of budget at the moment, so I'm going to have to get a little creative for now and create a setup that allows me to get hold of a stainless hood later to upgrade. I'm thinking of something like...

Building a dedicated brewing space in my garden...

Thanks for the questions all. Cost for the shed alone was about £2400 delivered and erected (teehee). Insulation is in my Wickes basket, just haven't pushed the button until the power is finished. I'm going with Rockwool for cost. That said, if you know of an eBay seller for ~70m2 for less...

Building a dedicated brewing space in my garden...

Thanks, I appreciate it. The original spec of the cabin I bought had windows but I had them build it without. I figure it's more secure this way, and I can always cut them in at a later date if I really miss the outside!

What are you doing new years eve?

I'll be staying in with the Mrs as baby will be in bed early. Much like the rest of my recent weeks, I'll be reading up on how to DIY stuff I need to make in the brewery.

    Cold Crash, best practice?

I generally cold crash in the FV once fermentation is complete, with the addition of some gelatin to help things along nice and quickly. Generally happy after 24 hours with that approach, and straight into the keg.
