    1st WOW

Congrats. I just did my first and it turned out well but not quite so well, purely as I didn't use pectolase, I think. I'm happy to drink it, but the ladies are nervous as it's not as clear as they are used to. I hope someone experienced can say if we need a little more pectolase or a little...

    What are you drinking tonight?

Not sure if it's cider or sparkling wine, but blueberry/apple sparkling knockout juice. Roughly 9%. 1 part asda blueberry juice drink to 3 parts cheapest apple juice and "some" sugar. Splendid !

    first try at turbo cider

Stopping it early is not good unless you're going to artificially carbonate. My boring unscientific preference is to make it a tiny bit stronger than desired and add a dash of Mrs Grafter's favourite fruit juice when serving. She likes blueberry, so for a demijohn it'll be 1 litre blueberry...

    TC advice

I'd be inclined to rack it before going away if there's significant sediment, but totally not needed and dutto covered everything. The yeast will have a snooze if they've no sugar to suck, but will still be there when you get to bottling.

    California Connisseur Malbec

I don't do many kits but was given a "6 bottle" of this. Bottled 5 today after following the destructions to the letter and drank the clear leftovers. OMG, it's like alco ribena! This one will go to the very back and be left for as long as possible.

    Bottles. Advice and Information.

The staff in my local are more than happy to set aside whatever bottles the breweries don't want back in return for a pint at the end of their shift. Getting them in cases comes in handy too.

    Turbo Cider Help

No such thing as too much yeast though it might make the brew a bit whiffy smellwise if you leave it sitting on the sediment. The smell will clear in a day or so once it's taken off the sediment. I use general purpose yeast, so it might not even happen with cider yeast.

    Turbo Cider Help

Looks fine to me. The little floaties are just your excess yeast since you put in "plenty". They'll settle as sediment and you can rack into another dj if so inclined. My ciders never really last long enough to clear completely, but you can use pectolase, finings etc as you would in wine if...

Has Home Brew ever 'messed with your head' ?

Obvious question is are we comparing like for like as in one night out drinking v one night on home brew or is the difference a complete wrecking session of 72 hours non stop homebrew or whatever. 2nd obvious question is if there's any weed involved in homebrew sessions that wouldn't be...

    Festival kit pouch burst.

Assuming they don't want it back, then hell yeah. It can't have been open to air for more than a day?

My current brew program 119ltrs total

Question? I've always filled my bottles maybe an inch higher than that to the first "bump" in the bottle, but I do more wine than beer where maybe less air is right?

    Rhubarb Wine recipe

The acidity of rhubarb may be an issue (he says without ever having made rhubarb wine). I'd be tempted to go to nature's way for another demijohn or go to asda and grab a 5l of water for £1.06 or whatever and split into batches.

I need to go to Spec Savers!

Ciders are an interesting point as cheapo shop white ciders at 7.5% are only marginally more expensive than what we can brew for from shop bought juice. The nasty shop whites only need a small amount of apple in them to count as cider and even the simplest turbo cider that any of us make is...

I need to go to Spec Savers!

http://www.wilko.com/cider+beer-brewing/wilko-apple-cider-kit/invt/0318708 Is this it? I imagine it might say initial fermentation in as little as 48 hours (optimistic looking at reviews). No way it'll be safe to drink this weekend imo. Edit, I see PiratePete found the actual kit already. I...

    Wilko's pear cider.

Yep, reading fail on my part. 5 grams is per litre. Sorry about that.

    Wilko's pear cider.

Not sure about what the kit instructions would say, but in general a level teaspoon is 4 grams and 5 grams is about right, so a slightly heaped teaspoon imo.

    What are you drinking tonight?

 It really was a turbo cider made with 50% cheapo asda apple juice and 50% mixed summer fruit juice. Bottled a month ago and already refreshing.

    water it down?

I have poor taste allegedly, but I buy a 2L of supermarket shandy for this exact purpose and re-use the bottle.
