Kits 'on the quick'. ? Advice from experience.

So. Hope you are all good and brewing well. Not been around much recently on the forums as, well, I have not had much to add. Aside from the ciders, my wine staples and 'go tos' are now / still Beaverdale 30 reds and Kenridge Classics. All , of course , sourced from Creative Wine. Reason...

    Superfast fements in this weather?

Hi guys. Been a while but I have been brewing constantly. On my 32nd 30 bottle kit now. Just to run this past you all. I have got a couple of Beaverdale 30 bottle kits on the go. One was started on 8th July. I racked at 0.998 having missed the 1.010 mark by a mile. Have had no action for a...

    Youngs FV lids snapping?

Hi all Anybody had any issues with the lids on the Youngs fvs breaking? My 33l has had some service admittedly but all of a sudden the outside edge has snapped away. Still using it but obviously aware that it is not totally sealed. Considerable googling managed to source a supplier that will...

    Beaverdale finings question

Sorry guys. I am sure I have read somewhere on here that you can stabilise, degas then add BOTH kieselsol and chitosan all in one session - or rather some of you have done this without problem. Be damned if I can find the original post. I know kwikclear says leave 30 mins between the two...

    Roddy's Strawberry and Lime TC . - 1st attempt

Well I finally got around to putting one of these on. All went together this morning and the lock is already showing signs of movement. My Lowicz bottles however appear to now be in English. Have the same sugar levels etc but the bottles are 400ml not 440 like the Polish jobbies. Have used...

Can somebody explain this please - ?

Having done quite a lot of kits now, especially Beaverdales, I still cannot get my head around the meaning of this -......... ''Add the stabiliser, this will prevent future fermentation but will NOT stop the present fermentation'' so make absolutely sure the wine has stopped. I sort of...

    Winebuddy experiment - thoughts please

So I now have 5 x winebuddy 30 bottle red kits, a mix of merlot / cabernet et al. I have no intention of making these again to spec as they are simply not my cup of tea but......... instead of getting them on fleabay I started to wonder what result I could get by combining the juice pack from...

5 x winebuddy in sale section guys.

I hope this is allowed but seeing as I never look at the sale section I wondered if there WAS actually any point in me putting it in there. http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=73738

Beaverdale Pinot Grigio - to chip or not to chip...

..... that IS the question. Never done one of these white kits. There is the option to use the oak chips for an oaky flavour or to omit them. Apart from the obvious comments about preferences etc has anybody tried both ways - comments appreciated.

    Hydrometer conundrum!

Here is a weird one but I am sure you guys will have an answer. Just pulled a sample of a Beaverdale Shiraz into a trial jar for hydrometer reading. 0.994 and no activity in the airlock. Excellent. Time to press on. Pop downstairs. 5 mins later return to trial jar and it now reads 1.002...

    Cider - shelf life?

Do the TCs or kit ciders have a shelf life once bottled? I appreciate that they improve generally with age but does that improvement stop as with some wines and does there become a point where they degrade? Edit - sorry posted wrong place. Chippy? Please move?

PET Bottle screw cap - reuse?

Hi. Have just used some 500ml pet bottles for cider. Noticed that when unscrewed the base collar is left on the bottle similar to the Novatwist ones. Can these tops then be safely reused with these pressure bottles like I do the Novatwist despite the collar being seperated permanently? Cheers.

    Little Bottler Dripping

Not the end of the world but my little bottler has developed an annoying drip which varies in 'speed'. Are these serviceable at all? Seems pretty sealed to me. Maybe a soak in some descaler would help. ?

On the rocks Raspberry and Lime - 40 pint

Never tried a kit cider so here we go. Will post results. It is on. Followed instructions to spec. Pitched yeast though at a tad under 30c hoping it would be ok and 1 1/2 hours later it is bubbling.

    Beaverdale Shiraz

I know I keep harping on about the Beaverdales but have never tried the Shiraz. Popped on a 30 bottle kit today but added in 500g of sugar. All Beaverdales seem to come out on the hydrometer at about 11.5% if done to spec so thought I would boost it a bit. Took starting SG up to 1.086. Not a...
