Looking for a kit that makes something like Ghost Ship

As you’ll guess by my forum name, I’m also a huge fan of Adnams Ghost Ship! I also only brew kits (no time for anything else). To get anything close to GS, you’ll obviously need a kit that contains citra. The best citra kit I’ve done is Mangrove Jacks Citra IPA. It was fantastic and one of the...

What are you listening to tonight.

Listening to the new Elbow album, Audio Vertigo, It’s terrific.

    Beer kit enhancers

Isn’t ‘enhancer’ just DME anyway? I tend to use the Dark Rock enhancer because I’ve had great results with it - and I really like the fact that it comes with Pure Brew as well. Only £5.50 and comes in different packs - Pale Ale, Amber Ale, Dark Ale, Stout etc. It’s great stuff.

What kit beer are you drinking tonight?

I’m usually pretty organised with regards to my beer - they go out to the shed for conditioning and are put into crates and labelled so I know what I’m drinking. I went out yesterday to bring some in for tonight and found a ‘stray’ bottle in a box. Absolutely no idea what it was but have started...

    Best Golden Ale kit

Worth having a scroll through the Reviews thread here; https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/forums/reviews.37/ I've done the St Peters Golden Ale, which was pretty good, if a little lacking in body. I haven't done it myself, but Woodfordes Bure Gold is generally very well reviewed. I'd highly...

    Ale Kit Recommendations?

Love Brewing’s Beerworks kits tend to be very good and there are a few ‘traditional’ bitters in the range. https://www.lovebrewing.co.uk/beer/beer-kits-by-brand/beerworks-craft-brewery-beer-kits/

Anyone done a Dark Rock Kit ?

The Dark Rock Session Series is a great range of kits. If you go to the 'Reviews' thread, you'll find some in there. I'd highly recommend them. What I would recommend, if you go for a Dark Rock kit, is to buy their Beer Kit Enhancer at the same time. It's really good stuff and makes a huge...

Dark Rock Citra Pale Ale review

Kit started 17th October 2023. Added 1kg Dark Rock Pale Ale Beer Kit Enhancer, Pure Brew, and then made up to 23L with Tesco Ashbeck mineral water. Fermented in brew fridge at 20.5°C. Kit hops added on 30th October. Bottled on 1st November, with one sugar stick per 500ml bottle and put into brew...

    Kit recommendations please!

I’d certainly look at the Dark Rock Session Series. I’ve done a few now, including the first taste of a new brew tonight which I’ll review on here when I get time, but all of them have been excellent and they do a range of styles. I’d always buy the kit with the relevant Dark Rock Enhancer...

Dark Rock Citra pale Ale Kit

Mine is in the brew fridge right now and will go out to the shed tomorrow for conditioning. I didn't seem to get a lot of airlock activity, but then I used Dark Rock's enhancer, which comes with Pure Brew. In my experience, Pure Brew always makes for a less vigorous fermentation. If you used...

    That homebrew taste after barreling

I personally think it's oxidation. When transferring from the FV to bottles, or to a barrel for batch priming and then to bottles or a keg, the beer will come into contact with the air. Then you add in dropping in hops or taking hydrometer readings and I think that's where the problems occur...

    Brewing kits

I’m glad to find someone else who has brewed the MJ Citra. Absolutely fantastic kit and I cannot for the life of me understand why they discontinued it.

Mangrove Jacks Mango Pale Ale review

Tried the first pint of my latest batch of Mango Pale Ale at the weekend. Just as good as I remembered and fantastic to think I have another 39 pints of this in the shed. Glorious beer.

    Christmas ale

Depends what your preferences are but I've added coffee to a stout kit a couple of times and it makes for a beautiful winter pint. Have a look at this thread; https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/st-peters-cream-stout.79414

    Climate change.

So 125,000 years ago, the warming of the planet was entirely natural whereas now it's all down to the 0.04% of CO2 in the atmosphere?

    1st timer

If you're going with the batch priming method, you will need a barrel or second fermenting vessel to mix the sugar into your beer. You would then siphon from there into your bottles. Another way to prime, and it's the one that I prefer personally, is to use sugar sticks (the sugar in a paper...
