Hello all,
I have recently moved to Grantham. I was wondering if there are any homebrewers or homebrew clubs in the area. I know there is a group in Nottingham, but would rather find something closer if possible.
Otherwise, if there is anyone in or around Grantham who might be interested in...
Have a look at Brülosophy's Hop Chronicles - they have done a fair few in their series: http://brulosophy.com/projects/hop-chronicles/
Or, if you want to try some British hops, there are a number listed here: https://www.britishhops.org.uk/varieties/
Hello Tortue,
As Bigcol said, you will want to transfer to a keg or bottles before lagering. But you do not want to do this until you are certain that fermentation is finished.
For the yeast, checking the Brewer's Friend calculator...
Hello Tortue,
Welcome!
Firstly, secondary is not really ever required unless you are doing something specific like adding fruits or other fermentables. It was often recommended in older brewing texts, but has pretty much been dismissed now. All it usually does is add a step where you could...
I use KeePass, too. I am wary of giving my passwords to a third party to look after them as I have no idea exactly how well they secure them.
I do store my KeePass file on my Dropbox, but I have a long pass phrase for it.
Ideally you want to be controlling for the temperature of your beer, not the air around it.
Either way, the G03 yeast from Imperial is, according to their site, ideally fermented at 16-20C. So being at 15C in the fermentation fridge is not going to harm it - but it may make it start a little...

Hello Alan,
Welcome to the forums!
You should be good with an 80/-.Are you looking at extract, or all grain? There is a bit of background and some recipes here: http://byo.com/hops/item/718-great-scot

You are a stronger man than me then.
If I have gone through the effort of making the beer, then by hell I will drink it! I have had a couple of borderline batches, but let them age and they improved...
Brulosoply do a hell of a lot of good exbeeriments. I have read through quite a lot of them over time for issues I was confused about.
Yes, in that particular beer he brewed, there was no discernible taste or mouth feel difference. There was, however, a pretty big difference in final gravity...
Yes, you will need something. Whether you get the GrainFather one, or just a cheap tea urn or pot for your stove.
The GF recirculates throughout the mash. Once the mash has finished, you need to lift the grain basket to drain. At this time you need to pour a few litres of hot water through to...
Personally, I just use cheap bottled water from supermarket in order to make up Starsan. I buy 5 litre bottles and pour the required amount into them. Then I can just pour back into the bottles for storage until needed again.
I do not think that the cloudiness is a problem though. As long as...
Stouts are best with the mix gas - that give the very small bubbles like you see with Guinness. Need the adaptor for the tap too ideally. Mix tends to be less acidic too, which suits that style.
CO2 is apparantly best for an IPA as well as lagers and so on as you want high carbonation. There...
To second Leon's comment - see this article: http://www.pcgamer.com/a-short-word-on-hardware-pricing-scams/?utm_content=buffer56297&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=buffer_pcgamerfb
There are quite a few similar scams going around (this one above was for PC parts, but same...
