    Ales to try around Cambridge?

Sure, it's not like I'm going anywhere. I can use a drink with all this Brexit stuff going on ;)

    Ales to try around Cambridge?

Yes, I discovered bus 13 - thanks for the heads up. I'll look around Cambridge for some more beers. If that doesn't work I'll just go to the gin lab instead (another interest) or I'll just end up going to Klub Polonia for the food.

    Ales to try around Cambridge?

I'm currently actually working at Granta Park... ánd staying in the Three Tuns. So far I liked the beers at the red lion in Hinxton better though. I also ditched my rental car as I didn't realise I could walk to Granta Park and it cost me quite some budget to drive a rental for months. And...

    Ales to try around Cambridge?

Hmm tried some ales so far, unfortunately it's not really my taste. Even the (apparently) good ones at the red lion were not my cup of tea.. I found some good Belgian beers in Cambridge too, so I'll just stick to those. By the way, is it just me or do ales have quite a low alcohol content?

    Ales to try around Cambridge?

I'm afraid I won't make that one as I don't arrive in the UK around 6pm and for the 2nd round I'll be in NL (24jan-14feb). Thanks for the offer though. I'll be staying in Great Abington so I'll see if they have any good casks around. Are there any local(ish) ales that I should definitely try...

    Ales to try around Cambridge?

Apologies for the late reply, I completely forgot about the thread. I'll be flying in on Sunday evening, so I'll give the above mentioned locations a try next weekend. I already know the IWM and I'm actually planning to go there too. Hopefully the weather cooperates a bit. Thank you all for the...

    Ales to try around Cambridge?

Hi all, Due to Brexit I'll be stuck in the Cambridge area for the the coming 4 months (Jan-Apr) as my company will need to mitigate all logistical risks where possible. So this is not about a Brexit discussion, the only fact is that I'll be stuck in/around Cambridge and will probably be needing...

    What the hell is this?

Hi GN and the other participants, I just remembered this gem. Any chance that I can use this thread in a presentation about food pathogens? (to highschool kids).

    Worst commercial beer

Distelhäuser pilsner is simply apalling. The same goes for Jupiler in my eyes, however they have a great marketing team these days. It used to be a cheap B brand for the working folk (like Crystal which actually is drinkable), but about 10 years ago they went from almost dead to one of the...

    spent grain

Don't give chickens/birds too much. They love it, but they will get fat fast and too much also gives diarrhea. Not that bad in the winter, but in the summer it might lead to myiasis. A bit of extra calories also won’t hurt your chicken now, as their egg production is low anyway.

    spent grain

It makes great pig fodder.. ;)

    Using phones whilst driving.

True that. You'd be surprised how much distance you have travelled whilst "quickly" reading a text, lighting a cigarette, dialing a number. Even in 3-5 sec a lot can happen in front of you. Here the roads are flat, but in the UK you have a lot of small hills - just enough to hide the road ahead.

    Using phones whilst driving.

Agreed. Here the fine is 240 euro. HOWEVER it's not just phones, things I came across during my (long) daily commute; - Calling not hands free - People playing pokemon - Lorry driver reading the news paper on the wheel (not in a traffic jam but with full speed!) - Women curling eyelashes -...

    uk holiday prices

Are you stuck to certain dates due to Kids? If not; fly to eastern Europe. Ryanair and WizzAir are really cheap.. so are hotels, food and drinks there. CZ, PL, HU are nice. So are the baltic and RO/BG capitals. I'm not sure what your idea of a holiday is, but you can have a nice break for a...

    Draught beer vs Bottled beer

Some gas mixtures have added nitrogen for a different head, which contributes to taste. Also the priming sugar ratio is different, resulting in different carbonation and ABV. And I'm pretty sure there's the therapeutic effect as well.

    You couldn't make it up.

Ah.. here we have a social work place for the mentally challenged people, just outside the city limits. There's a 60km limit (normal is 80km) with a warning sign for loose cattle. It wouldn't be weird as it is next to some dairy and pig farms (it's a childrens farm that sells fresh veggies and...

Military diet...me & and big mouth!

It must be a fake, my diet back then consisted of 50% beer, 40% currywurst and 10% cheap vending machine coffee. Somehow I still was in better shape than now.

    Sleep (PC/Laptop)

Main problem with Apple is that if you own 1 Apple , you MUST buy everything else from them. If you don't you'll have the most annoying compatibility issues. The products are good, but so is the competition. For most use I find normal Windows laptops superior though. They have less...

    Guinness: What's happened?

I can hardly imagine a industrial scale brewer uses tap water. All larger brewery I know (mainland Europe) have their own source to pump up groundwater. I believe it's a cost thing.
