    Possible Lacto Infection

I wish I knew, I think I used too much flaked maize in them, I was trying for a cerveza. They just don't smell very good, it's a hard to describe smell, have terrible chill haze and the taste is flavourless. Going to try a Kolsch or basic pilsner soon and see if it is the maize that's...

    Possible Lacto Infection

Thanks guys, either way, if it's still grim when I try it tonight i'll tip it. I've binned the fermenter i was using and bought a new auto syphon. Fingers crossed for the next batch. I've not been having much luck just lately with my brews....2 lagers down the drain and now maybe this...

    Possible Lacto Infection

Hi All, I think I've managed to pick up a lacto infection in a pale i recently made. I'm not sure where it's gone wrong as I thought I was pretty anal when it comes to cleaning and sterilizing. There was no sign of infection during fermentation and all smelled and tasted fine. However, I...

Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

Thanks for the help Steve. I only have what's available on the Yorkshire water site, which to be fair seems pretty comprehensive. Do you think a 50/50 with some ashbeck might be more beneficial?

Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

Hi All Just about to dip my toes into water treatment, I have a small RO system that I intend to use to get about 30 litres of water. I'm going to brew a Mexican Cerveza and have put a profile for American Lager into Bru'n Water. I'm having an absolute mare trying to get the treated water to...

    Citra and Motueka NEIPA

I was gonna go with the good ol' Vermont Ale yeast. Water profiling is still a little confusing for me, even with the help of the forum sticky. I'm trying to build a profile with Bru'n'Water but might just stick with Ashbeck for now. Don't suppose anyone has any clue on what Ashbeck would...

    Citra and Motueka NEIPA

Ta, so the grain bill looks ok? I guess the extra hops would be in the dry hop.

New member, i think my first brew is 👎🏻

Sorry to say it mate but a vinegar taste indicates an infection I think. although I'm sure there's more knowledgeable members on here who can give you some better info. For me, i'd review my cleaning and sanitizing regime and see if I missed something along the way.

    DIY Dog - Ph Help

Hi Guys, I'm going to be brewing up a clone of Brew Dogs Electric India from the DIY Dog book. The book says the Ph should be 4.4 I'm guessing this is after the mash is complete? Does this mean I should look to lower the Ph during the boil or after the boil? I'm going to assume...

3 Tier System - Pump Question.

Thanks guys, I've just put an order in for the camlocks (hopefully I've ordered the right bits) I've only bought two at the moment if they fit I'll go ahead and get the rest. Until then I've always got my trusty BIAB to keep me busy :)

3 Tier System - Pump Question.

Hi all, do any of you use a solar pump? I'm looking at putting a 3 tier gravity system together, the pots I have already have the holes drilled and they look a bit high. I'm thinking they won't get all the good stuff out of the mash tun. I also have a couple of solar pumps and was going...

Hoppy Pale Ale - When do I add the sugar?

Great, Thanks for the info. I'll add it just before I stick the cooler in so I can give it a good stir round to dissolve.

Hoppy Pale Ale - When do I add the sugar?

I guess it's to raise the ABV and give the beer a drier feel.

Impatience! - Can't wait to try my first BIAB

They were in the airing cupboard for just over two weeks. The solution I made for the priming was very syrupy (I didn't use much water) I think it was just to heavy to mix properly with the beer. Another one I made a couple of weeks before this one has worked out great, maybe a little to...

Impatience! - Can't wait to try my first BIAB

Well, thought I would give you an update. Tried it again yesterday, opened it in the sink just in case there was a gusher, but...... nothing. No carbination at all. Tried another 2 bottles, all the same. I think the batch priming has failed this time. I relied on the whirlpool effect of...
