Barrel and Mini Keg Newbie - Advice required

Firstly, I am a newbie to using a barrel (10 litre / 2 gallon) and mini keg (5 litre) as I have in the past always bottled my beers. I am after two pieces of advice: 1. How much priming sugar to I use in both the barrel and mini keg and should it be dissolved in water first and then added to...

    Lowering ABV

I have a 2nd Youngs American IPA kit to start, my first attempt ended up with an ABV of 6.9% which is a little high for session drinking!! My question is on this 2nd attempt is there an easy way to ensure the ABV comes out around 4.5% - 5% - it comes with a Malt pouch and 1kg of brewing...

    Youngs American IPA Kit

My airlock does indeed fit into a black grommit, how long does the tube need to be and how big a bottle?

    Youngs American IPA Kit

I had a huge krausen on mine which blow through the airlock on numerous occassions, not sure how to make a blow off tube! :-? I am now prepared for it to take a lot longer to ferment out, just hope the hops will not ruin it as put them in at day 15!

    Youngs American IPA Kit

Thanks for the advice, from the sample I had last night when testing the gravity and from the smell of it when the addition of the hops I have high hopes too!! The reviews are good for it and I like a very hoppy IPA so hoping all good - just a little stronger than I normally go for! :-?

    Youngs American IPA Kit

I am hoping it will not take too much longer then - will the bubbling stop when fermentation is complete? Then check the gravity remains stable over a few days?

    Youngs American IPA Kit

I am a fairly Newbie to Home brewing and this is my 2nd kit a Youngs American IPA. I am after some advice as my fermentation seems to be not going by the instructions - I appreciate that these things being natural may sometimes not follow the instructions. The wort has been in the FV for...

When to start next brew, that is the question?

I have drunk about half of my 1st ever Home Brew (40 pint kit) which was an outstanding success but I am struggling to work out when to start my 2nd brew batch so that I do not have any period of time without Home Brew being available. I only have the 40 x 500ml bottles (plus a few extra) so...

    Muntons Home Brew Kits

I am planning my 2nd Home Brew beer run and I have been looking at either the Muntons Hand-Crafted American Style IPA or the Muntons Courage Directors Bitter. Has anyone had any experience with these kits and how they turn out? Thanks in advance

    Newbie Fermenting worry

The reading was the same tonight so I have dry hopped using 50grams of Fuggles Hop Pellets in a boiled Muslin Bag which has sunk nicely into the wort. Will leave until the weekend to add a nice taste and aroma to the wort and then will bottle it.

    Newbie Fermenting worry

Well I am relieved - I have just taken a hydrometer reading of the wort - The OG was 1.042 and today is Day 6 and the reading today is 1.012 so fermentation has clearly taken place!! :thumb: Will take another reading tomorrow to see if fermentation has finished as it looks like it is still...

    Newbie Fermenting worry

The Krausen is starting to die down so I think I may dry hop on Day 7 as suggested and then it can have another 7 days with the hops in the wort. Thanks

    Newbie Fermenting worry

That looks interesting - will have to watch the youtube video about it later. I am glad to hear that your foam has subsided as I looked at mine this morning and panicked at first but when I saw bubbles coming up to the surface I presumed it was still fermenting and I have a crust ring around...

    Newbie Fermenting worry
