Klarstein Füllhorn - vorlauf sparge, etc. am i getting it.

hi All, long time lurker, i’d appreciate your advice So i’ve had a break from home brew for a while. My last efforts were limited to extract brewing a couple of years ago. Ive decided to go BIAB which i thought was going to be pretty simple. However, it seems i need a bigger pot (current...

How to build a stir plate for less than ten quid

i assembled all the parts for this. rigged up to test before installing in the box but nothing. my fan has 3 wires, earlier post said that no harm can be done by connecting wrong wires. after various combinations i got a burning smell and a little smoke from the fan hub! i guess I've burnt out...

Yeast starter, how many cells do I have?

thanks for the advice. The trouble I have is what assumptions to make when over - growing/ stepping up a yeast starter. Brewersfriend and other calculators make assumptions that can be adjusted. However, when I read that I should pitch 1l of yeast starter that means nothing unless I know...

Yeast starter, how many cells do I have?

I had a packet of white labs Bavarian weizen wlp-351. It was past the the stated use by date by a month so I thought I'd follow the advice here and elsewhere about making a starter and harvesting, nothing to lose really (except some DME and time). The packet contained 40g of product (I assume...

    Dead yeast - add more?

Ive just completed an extract wort using Wyeast Irish Ale 1084. I fear it maybe dead. I purchased the yeast about a month ago and its date of production states Oct 2016 though should be fine for 6 months. I activated the smack pack as instructed expecting the package to swell up. This...

    another 'What went wrong?'

as a foot note - tasted the lively one and pretty good. perhaps a tad too much banana - a sign of higher fermentation temp? or could this happen in the bottle? PF was ~21C with FV in water bath with heater in cold room. priming ~23C don't remember such a flavour after PF. cheers
