    Best lager kit

Hi Will, I too am very much a novice, but have learnt that patience is key in brewing. You ideally need 6 weeks from start of brewing, to reach a point where beer is ready to drink, 2 weeks primary fermentation, 2 weeks secondary fermentation (in your bottles/pressure barrel), then finally 2...

Aldi seem to be pulling out all the stops

My Aldi favourites are; Phantom pale ale brewed by Freak Aleworks which I found to be a great fruity, fresh and hoppy beer. Stateside IPA by the Buckhorn brewery, again very light and floral using Citra and Chinook hops. Also, Hop 'til you Drop brewed by the Hop Foundry, which had quite a dry...

    Best lager kit

No Neil, I used 1.2kg of light liquid malt. I'm going to leave it another 3 days (21 in total) before testing again. How long did yours take to ferment out?

    Best lager kit

That's interesting. So it took 23 days. The Mangrove Jack Gold that I have brewing is really taking its time. Gravity reading started out at a pitiful 1.040, and after 14 days was at 1.017. I've just tested again ( Day 17) and it is now 1.014. Instructions on the box say you should be looking...

    Best lager kit

I've go the Mangrove Jack Gold lager on the go now. Brewed it a couple of days ago. Used 1.2kg of light liquid malt extract with it. I am brewing as per the instructions, and hoping for a decent summer drink for the missus. She keeps complaining that I am being selfish in my brews, as I mainly...

Help with beerworks Presidents Siera Pale Ale

Sorry, I meant the Citra not Challenger hops. Yes I crushed and added boiling water as per intructions. Let it cool, and then used a tea strain to transfer the hope to FV, leaving liquid behind.

Help with beerworks Presidents Siera Pale Ale

I've done this kit twice, and it's a crackin beer. I hope it turns out well for you. just checked my brew notes for this...I fermented at 22degrees, pitched the challenger hops on day 14. On Day 19 with FG reading of 1.003, I cold crashed for 2 days before racking. It's well worth the wait.

    PANIC BREWING!!

As the COVID-19 virus bites even deeper here in the UK, I wonder how long it will be before the government is forcing pubs/bars to close? Joe Public is already stocking up on foodstuffs such as rice and pasta, even though he probably only eats pasta once a fortnight. You can bet your life that...

    Beerworks President's Sierra Kit

I don't have enough brewing experience to suggest why you are having issues with the priming, but I have done this kit twice with fantastic results just using the supplied ingredients and instructions. The people at my local 'Lovebrewing' shop are always very helpful, so it may be worth...

    First Brew advice

I brewed this yesterday. Used 1Kg dextrose, and added 200g of black treacle, and a couple of tablespoons of cocoa powder. Brewed 21 litres, and has a starting gravity of 1.052

    Feeling Hoppy

Got my 'Feeling Hoppy' kit brewed on Monday. I added a jar of Holland and Barret malt extract (450g) to the brew and brewed slightly short at 21 litre. OG was 1.052. It is bubbling away nicely now in the spare bedroom at 22 degrees. The hops supplied are Amarillo, but not much of them, so...

Andy, I would advise that you put your bottles somewhere safe. Are they glass bottles? 1 teaspoon of sugar per bottle - on top of a brew that may not have fully finished the primary fermentation - could lead to bottle bombs. I.e, the pressure build up could cause the bottles to explode, so put...

    Woodfordes Wherry kit

Got my Woodfordes Wherry cold-crashing in the garage at the moment. Starting gravity was 1.042 and after 18 days at 20-22 degrees it is stable at 1.012. So that's around 4% ABV Going to Barrel/bottle on Friday. I will just be using some soft brown sugar to prime. hopefully 80g will be enough for...

    Woodfordes Wherry kit

You'll not be disappointed with those Beerworks kits. Had the Spire IPA last summer, and it went down a treat at a BBQ we had. The Presidents Sierra is so good that I've done it twice. I also have a Woodfordes Wherry that I will start at the weekend. I bought it from wilco along with a...
