    Brewferm Tarwebier Airlock question.

The heading here says General Beer Brewing Discussion but it came into my emails as Brewferm Tarwebier Review so, if it is the Tarwebier yes, but if you have added the "sugar 2" you can bottle it now and try one at Christmas. The longer you keep the Brewferm family bottled the better they get...

    making mead....

I have been given some jars of honey with Irish Whiskey in it, (seems a terrible thing to do to honey) can this be used in my next batch of Mead or will the alcohol in the Whiskey be too much for the yeast? I haven't tasted it, and there is nothing on the label to say how much there is in it.

    Brewferm Xmas Ale Review.

with regards to the Brewferm Christmas I have a question which is a little too late to ask! The can makes 7 litres, not a lot, so I did two cans together. I should have bottled yesterday but there was so much "gunk" in suspension that I decided to secondary ferment in the same vessel (I am...

    Extended Conditioning Times

I haven't been home brewing for long and I am also learning about bottling time - and patience being a virtue for the home brewer. I brewed a Brewferm "Oud Vlaams Bruin" last year and it was superb so opened another can last Christmas to make it again. I like the Belgian honey beers so...

    Fermentasaurus conical PET fermenter

I used the collection bottle, didn't find it messy at all - just closed the valve before removing the bottle. It was interesting to see the bottle filling with sediment during the fermentation process. I never thought about keeping the light out but have a superb brew of Oud Vlamms Bruin...

    Fermentasaurus conical PET fermenter

thanks again, barb and tube it will be (for now) if it turns out good then I probably won't go pressurised - it may get too complicated for me. give it a few weeks and I will let you know how it tastes. Brewferm - oud vlaams bruin - brilliant last time, using the old fashioned bucket method.

    Fermentasaurus conical PET fermenter

thanks for your reply, at the moment just using it with an air lock - is it worth buying the pressure kit - does it make much of a difference?

    Fermentasaurus conical PET fermenter

still quite new to homebrew but my wife bought me a Fermentasaurus for Christmas. I have some Brewferm kits and they all give details of how much sugar to add at secondary fermentation. Is this necessary with the Fermentasaurus and, if so, wouldn't opening it (to put the sugar in) allow...

    Burton Bridge Porter Stuck?

the instructions said to bottle and keep in a warm room for two days, then move to somewhere cool. I bottled half of it (some with 3gm sugar, some with 5gm honey) and kept for two days as instructed. I bottled the other half and kept for a week in a warm room (bottled with 3gm sugar, 5gm...

    Burton Bridge Porter Stuck?

I have just bottled up 5 gallons of Burton Bridge Porter - also from a single can mix. I used 1kg of LME and 200gm of castor sugar. Everything went superbly through the fermentation - except the reviews I found, not many seem to like it. So I decided to bottle it with various sugary things I...

    another Newbie

I made even more mistakes when bottling! With regards to the honey I read (somewhere) 63 grams per gallon So I counted up my bottles - set aside for honey - and had 4.5 litres worth, a mixture of 330ml and 1 litre bottles. So I put 100 grams of local honey - the bees even use my flowers for...

    Brewferm Tarwebier Review

how long does beer keep if kegged? Is it noticeably longer than if bottled? I am not a big beer drinker and don't want my brews to go off before I can drink them.

thank you for the Ploegsteert suggestion - I found all three last August, driving down to Northern France, definitely recommend the frituur. MickDundee says that I would have been better adding my honey at the primary (I can try that next time) what about a compromise and adding it at...

Usually, when visiting Belgium, I am somewhere between Oostende and Ieper - there are a lot of very good beer supermarkets (and I have bought supplies in most of them) If I want something specific they will keep it for me, they are all very helpful. Later this year I have to go to Maastricht...

thanks for the encouragement - I will probably have to put this first brew down to building up my experience - but I may be lucky and get something drinkable.

I travel over to Belgium every year - my wife smokes and her tobacco is cheaper - she thinks that I am great for taking her over but I can fill the car with beer (for a lot less than she spends on her 'hobby') I like the honey beers and decided to give it a go myself - I have just started...
