Do you consider this Home Brewing?

Ruminated? You don't use a grain mill?

Glasses , snobs or owt ?

The "tulip glass" is quite appropriate for certain beers, it helps to promote a nice head and enhances aroma.

Glasses , snobs or owt ?

In many cases, yes - the traditional Ale glass is designed to produce a good head with low carbonation, a Pilsner glass to do the opposite, Saison is often drunk with a glass similar to a red wine glass, but with a slight necking to promote head, whilst still leaving an empty space at the top to...

    Water shortage brewing.

I run my water from immersion chiller or still into a galvanised 44 gallon drum, then either re-use it with a pump or use the excess to water my chillies and hops. In summer I tend to use ground water for the immersion chiller as it is cooler - but the need for watering plants is greater, so it...

    Beer and global warming.

Actually, it is to deal with difference in local areas compared to sea level - and it was created before global warming was first observed, about 150 years ago.

    Beer and global warming.

Climate change is real - Al Gore's theories are BS. If you say you care about the environment and drive an diesel SUV for example - you are full of ****e. Cutting down trees to build McMansions and destroying arable lands with metallic pollution in the name of Al Gore's BS are causing far more...

    Advice on dry hopping?

I go commando, but cold crash and use gelatin. I also use a siphon - could never keep the crud out with a tap and got sick of the cleaning/infection. I used to use muslin, but don't believe enough of the flavour gets out, then you have to clean or replace the muslin, and it has to be sterilised...

    Hello from North East Scotland

Hello from South Eastern Australia. I believe my sister was up your way recently, hope there's enough alcohol left!

    The new wave Gin liars?,,,,

BTW - since we are already on rabbit trails: Does anyone know of anyone who legally produces potato vodka? It's a flavour I discovered from Russian friends that doesn't seem to exist any more.

    The new wave Gin liars?,,,,

Now I'm not knocking Scotch Whisky, even though my ancestry is Irish (we probably had to give them the whisky to convince them to wear the kilts, which also originated in Ireland.) Anyway, we both loved a good fight, and the Scots actually improved it. A good scotch is a combination of the...

    The new wave Gin liars?,,,,

There are basically two types of gin - old fashioned full flavoured gin where the vapours of a neutral spirit are passed through the botanicals to produce a complex balance of flavour and alcohol. Then there is the cheap stuff intended for trendy cocktails (classic cocktails still require a...

    The Rich get richer ...

Even worse - we usually waste it on things like fruit, vegetables and shoes for our children. Bastards that we are!

    It's a hung parliament.

I'm similar, but one or two of my friends/family do have rather fundamentalist Islamic leanings - I figure that while they are still willing to argue with me we're doing alright. I also have friends with similarly extreme views on "Christianity," Seikh, Homosexuality, and others - but I figure...

    It's a hung parliament.

I didn't think I cared much and I still won't claim to fully understand your politics, but I just watched the Last Leg special on your election and I think you should all be bloody proud of yourselves!

End is neigh for the tango women!

I just don't get the connection with horses? "The end is neigh?" [BTW, I'm a ginger (or was when I had hair) - deal with it!]

    cerveza type recipe question..

The girl I should have married sold Cerveza for 10c a bottle in a Cantina, 20c if you wanted it cold.

    cerveza type recipe question..

Cerveza is Mexican/Spanish for beer, and wheat grows much better than barley in such a climate. It's the cloying effect of the wheat that led Americans to add lime or lemon...

No Challenger, but i have EKG

No trying to insult anyone - I just haven't been on this forum as long as you and don't want to offend others. I admit EKG is one of my favourite hops, but if your tag means anything I'm sure you will appreciate my opinion. I became truly converted to homebrew by a girlfriend of British...

No Challenger, but i have EKG

Up the EKG a little, it's always a win. After getting totally screwed over by the banks and the news I'm about to be sacked, I opened the freezer and found I have about 100g of EKG, along with some Marris Otter and Crystal I was recently given life is looking pretty good! Precis: You can never...

    cerveza type recipe question..

Cut back the cara - the most famous cerveza is a cheap domestic wheat beer in it's homeland. About 50/50 wheat and pale malt, bitter to the high 20s and add a flavour hop of spicy/citrus nature about 25g/10 minutes and you'll probably be happy. Pride of Ringwood used to be great as the bittering...
