Hi Bez Not made the Beaverdale merlot but i shouldn't think there will be much difference between the 2... My Beaverdale cab/shiraz needs at least three months to mature in my opinion so might suit your purposes. Let us know which route you go.

I think a full bodied red under £30 would be the holy grail and from what i have tried not possible. My favourite red is the Beaverdale cabinet shiraz but as Led Zep says this needs aging for at least 6 months in my opinion. CC merlot is actualy darker than the beaverdale when first brewed...

Larder fridges are a must I have 2 both from gumtree one was free and the other one £20 but both in shed.
