    Speidel Braumeister 20 Ltr.

Don't think I'd start off with that expensive bit of kit. Nice, and you'd manage to get rid of it if you didn't want to continue but you'd lose some cash. Why not get yourself a cheap 30L bolier (maybe a burco or buffalo boiler from Ebay if you don't want to DIY) and go the brew in a bag route...

    Building my all-in-one brewery

I'm low tech all the way! How about a stainless 40L Burco/Buffalo boiler with a concealed element, insulated with camping mats and a mashing bag. BIAB stylee! Stuart

    Lifting BIAB grain bag....

I use a bike repair stand to lift and suspend my bag. http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/comms/s ... kstand.htm It's light - so is easily moved over the kettle, has spread apart feet so fits in well below my kettle and telescopic - so I can drop the head down to kettle level to clamp the bag and...

    a simple cleaning aid

A couple of litres of hot water into a fermenting bucket/better bottle. Add a few tablespoons of washing soda and a minute amount of unscented washing up liquid. Add in a non-abrasive microfibre cleaning cloth. Swirl with lid on. If there's a hole in the lid I plug it with blue roll. Attack...

    Any homebrew facepalm moments?

I remembered too late that Better Bottle PET plastic fermenters are only rated to ~60C. Imagine my surprise when I poured boiling water into one to get rid of some stubborn grime, only to find it reverting back to a shapeless plastic blob! Stuart

Leaving a wort overnight to cool

I 'cube' all of my beers like a lot of the Aussies do (also called no-chill and slow-chill). I transfer the wort straight from the boil into a, cleaned and sanitised, food grade HDPE plastic 'jerry can' type container, squeeze the sides until minimal headspace exists and put the airtight cap on...

    most tolerant beer yeast

Hi, I was talking to a guy at the last Scottish Craft Brewers meeting. He contract brews (can't remember where) and he was doing a high strength beer that firstly used an ale yeast and then a champagne yeast and finally a sake yeast to get to high ABV! Sounds like it would be a monster. Stuatr

    gas supplier in SE Scotland?

Russel gas should be able to sort you out. I think they have a place in Sighthill in Edinburgh as well as one in Larbert, near falkirk. I use the one in Larbert, where I live. I pay a one off cost to get the full C02 cylinder and then a monthly cost. I can't remember what the exact costs are...
