Beer Newbie - Lowering ABV in kits

Cheers jof, I appreciate the info! I'm trying to switch from cider to ale partly to reduce my booze intake, so something like 2.5% to 3.8% is the goal.

Beer Newbie - Lowering ABV in kits

Hi all, I'm totally new to beer, though I've a bit of experience with cider and fruit wine from a few years ago, so understand general brewing ideas. I'm thinking of starting my exploration of beer using one of the inexpensive Wilko kits, likely a bitter or something like that. I.e: Caxton...

    TC first brew

I think I've got a dodgy hydrometer, because it's got a lean to it whenever it's in liquid. Anyway, reading that the beginning was 1.042 and at the end it was 1 dead on. As far as I remember this means it'll come out around the 5.5% ~ 6% mark.

    TC first brew

I've actually bottled this brew already, but didn't get a chance to make a post about it until now - sat on a delayed train on Easter Sunday. Made a plain TC following Roddy's recipe. Used Asda cheapo apple juice, coming out to 14 litres in total. Tasted sweeter than expected before bottling...

    Fruit in wine

    Fruit in wine

Hi gang, Forgive me if this is painfully obvious. I'm going to start brewing a WOW as one of my first brewing experiments. I've bought the juice I'm going to use, and all the other gear needed. I've also bought a load of plums I found for cheap and thought it would be nice to use them in...

    How to make Turbo Cider.

Cheers for the detailed instructions. I've got some of this on the go as my first decent attempt at brewing. I'll make a post when it's a bit further along with the details.

    Back sweetening

I've got some Turbo Cider on the go and don't want it to end up dry as the Sahara. What's the verdict on the best sweetener to use? Which one affects taste the least like chemicals? Stevia already seems like a good bet, but more opinions would be great.

    Hello from Glamorgan

Diolch i chi gyd! Thanks all. I appreciate the time people have already put in to uploading their recipes and advice. I started a small batch of turbo cider last night, so we'll see how that first experiment goes.

    Hello from Glamorgan

Hi all, I bought some kit a few years ago and quickly discovered that I had nowhere to put it which had a decent temperature for brewing. A mate of mine came to a party recently with a few bottles of wine he'd made from a recipe on here and convinced me to give it a try now that I've moved to...
