    Jan 6th Hearings

"The U.S. House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol is a select committee of the U.S. House of Representatives to investigate the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021" Is the UK showing these hearings? If so, is anyone watching? I'm not...

    Ugh! Dealing With Internet Provider

Over here, Internet service providers may as well be called "monopolies." I only wanted to cancel a streaming service as I no longer need it. It can't be done from the web page though you would think so. Because of that, I searched for a half an hour trying to find how and clicked on pretty...

Is a Blow-off Tube Actually Necessary?

I have 37% headspace in the fermenter. That is almost three gallons-worth (11 liters) of headspace for a five gallon (19 liter) batch in my fermenter. I have never even come close to needing a blow-off tube despite high ABV beers (up to 13%) or styles. Is there anyone else horrified at seeing...

    Reliable Laptop?

I've run into a couple negatives with HP--overheating is probably the worst of it. This current HP was not cheap but it is built like it is though I was impressed by the weight of it (non-scientific comment). We got it from Costco which is why we bought it. I've had a great experience with ASUS...

    £52M Houses???

I looked at some places in the Hamptons (eastern Long Island in New York state) after I saw something on the TV. There's no way a place can be worth that much. Do you have anything like that in the UK? Personally, I found it offensive to common sense. PS If I put the pound sign in the wrong...

What Did you Cook this Weekend?

It's a generic category (stolen from HBT). Doesn't have to be cooked on the weekend. The purpose is just to showcase whatever you feel like showcasing. If there is already a similar thread, I'll revive it. We make this rice and bean. It goes well as is or with tofu/chicken/steak and wrapped in a...

Is Hockey Big in the UK?

Hockey is more popular here in the colder states which is logical. Michigan being butted up against Canada, hockey's made it's huge impact on the Detroit-Metro area. There is a very large, Redwings fan base in Windsor, Ontario, Canada due to proximity to Detroit versus Toronto, Ontario, Canada...

    Hockey/Lacrosse, etc.

I'm not sure if I mentioned these sports before (beer memory) but I'm curious now what the state of those sports are in the UK? Do your schools (18 and under) support them, are there teams and so forth? An ice rink is ridiculously expensive so maybe not or there's no interest. I was just...

    The Homemade Pizza Thread

Stole this idea from the US sister site. Show off your skills, share ideas if you're interested. I made the round pizza (directly below) today and the square with basil some time ago but making squares is my favorite so I posted it also.

    Ted Lasso

I would like to get anyone's opinion here who's familiar with your football and tell me what you think of the sports scenes in Ted Lasso.

Behind The Curve (Documentary on Flat Earthers)

I saw the documentary on the subject yesterday. According to it, a great many people believe the Earth is flat and that folks who believe it's round have been being fooled for centuries. It was very interesting to hear the arguments in favor of the Earth being flat. What I observed that was...

Is the Meghan Interview with Oprah a big deal in the UK? Is/was Oprah Winfrey a big celeb with you folks?

It was a pretty large event here, some beans spilled. I just found out that she's a movie star and not a simple Caucasian ( thought she looked Italian, maybe?). Full disclosure: the totality of my knowledge comes from watching a Stephen Colbert monologue about her and Prince (?) Harry. There's...

    Gold Statue at Conservative Conference

I think I've seen everything now. This statue of the former US president is on prominent display at the yearly Republican conference. There have been a few who've connected the dots between the golden calf from the Bible and that statue.

Impeachment trial on TV in the UK

Is the trial being aired in full (if not on a delay) in the UK? I'm finding it hard to look away from it. The House managers (loosely, the prosecutors) are doing a fine job. It won't matter though since the Senate GOP won't budge other than a small number. @Chippy_Tea if this is too spicy of a...

Advice/Feedback Requested on Adding Yeast at Bottling Time

Hello. Thank you, in advance, for your responses. I have a batch of Belgian with an OG of 1.104 and a FG of 1.004. It's been in the fermenter for six weeks. I used two MJ-41s. I usually bottle after three weeks so this situation hasn't come up before. I'm 50/50 on whether to add a packet of...

    Best BBC/UK shows on Netflix

I know there are other threads similar but hopefully not identical to this one. If this happens to be ridiculously repetitive, Chippy can delete this redundant thread and PM me and point me in the right direction. I'm in the US and I'm "out" of binging material. I'm not an aficionado on either...

Would an NFL franchise be successful in the UK?

I'm just curious as to what your thoughts are. Is American football interesting enough? The biggest logistic hurdle is the time zone. It would seem that the UK team would be at a huge disadvantage having to travel 8 times per season whereas teams in the division only travels once.

    Scent Crazy

I was in my house the other day and got hit by an overwhelming cologne/perfume smell. I really thought someone was at my front door. It turns out that it was a neighbor across the street getting into his car. I just don't like the fake scents but didn't realize, until after reading, that they...

    Wanted: Experienced Mangrove Jack User

I was pleased with M-41 for a 10% ABV Belgian. It was my first time using Mangrove Jack's. I just sprinkled and waited ten minutes--before putting the lid on, not for it to be finished fermenting. What do you think of two M-42's for a high ABV stout or Old Ale? Anyone with experience on this?
