    Backer Elements - a'clicking and a'tripping

That's exactly it. The thermal cut outs trip with and audible click. Then trip back on. Have had a really good look but no sign of any external anything or way to access the innards. What baffles me is the two going at the same time. Like happened in Sept last year.

    Backer Elements - a'clicking and a'tripping

Hi Fil They seem to reset after a minute or two, one of them at least definitely does. Of course you lose the rolling boil totally - and the temperature slowly drops - to 95C by the end of the boil. So not much of a boil at all. I can't see what I might be doing wrong - as they worked well...

    Backer Elements - a'clicking and a'tripping

Hi there I have been using a pair of Backer Kettle elements in my 100L Bergland stock pot for over three years now with great success - dozens of brews. Last September, though I got the dreaded click click of the cut outs switching out half way through a boil, one after another. Aaargghhh :cry...

    Cloudy with no head

What yeast did you use? Any what malt / adjuncts etc.? Some yeasts e.g. US05 - are a b***er to clear; adding wheat to the mash also can lead to a clearing problem depending on the mash

    German homebrewing regulations

Mmmmm - well don't forget, we homebrewers are all paying the VAT man in the UK for most of the brewing materials and goods purchased. That's a 20% charge. Though I agree it would be worse if we had to pay the vatman for duty from Excise too!

    leaving beer in primary

Same here - the longer the better up to a point, when the yeast begins to decay. Generally 3 - 4 weeks is fine Longer means the beer is clearer going into bottles or keg (though you can then find there isn't enough yeast for a good priming via secondary fermentation)

    Almond Cider

Fingers crossed then ... Saturday is racking day :wha:

    Almond Cider

Made up a pear cider kit last week - a tin of Hambleton Bard concentrated juice with sugar added. Unfortunately the sugar that I added was a 1.3 kg mixture of white and demerara I thought ... until my better half pointed out that the 130 gm demerara was in fact 130 gm of ground almonds :hmm...

Cornie arrived regulator on way BUT where to get co2?

Hi there Try asking in the Cardiff Homebrew store - they may have ideas on gas supplies in Cardiff. Down here in Swansea the local diving supplies does CO2 for a few quid - can supply tanks too, typically £30 and yours to keep
