    Coopers bottle exploded

Hi, I had a coopers PET bottle explode a bit ago (a split formed in the base of it, can only assume too much pressure), after I thought the brewferm Tripel I had in there had finished priming. Short of space and not wanting this to happen again, I made sure I de-gassed the rest of them...

    Brewferm carbonation

Hi, I brewed the Abdij kit to the letter last year, blinking gorgeous, but undercarbed. Their priming sugar values seem very low compared with brewersfriend (which I've used with great success for carbing). Like 65g versus 100g or something. Anyway, I've bought 8 of their kits for a Belgian...

    Racking cane rubber tip knackered

Hi, As the pic should show, it's bust, and causing air to get into the wort as it moves through the syphon. Can I purchase spares of this separately anywhere, or does it have to be a new racking cane each time? Ta

    Bottle bottoms melted

A potentially unusual problem... Over the hot period this summer I only had garage space to condition beer. We went away, and returned to these plastic bottles which were a little stuck to the cupboard shelf and gooey on the bottom. I assumed a bottle had exploded, but I'd hardly carbonated...

    Cold conditioning...in THIS heat!

I was all smug for having upped my PET bottle count to around 140. Meant I'd be able to crack on with a THIRD brew, whilst storing the first two to mature. Then I'd be in a cycle of only drinking brews that were ready, and never running out. This has all hit a bit of a hurdle now, with nowhere...

    Equivalent priming sugar for bottling

Hi all, I tried priming a pilsner a while ago, which stated half a teaspoon of sugar per bottle or 85g for a pressure barrel. I took the boiled sugar solution route for bottling, and presumed 85g would do the trick, as it would for the barrel. However, 2 weeks at 20° (no joy) and then 3 weeks...

    Can't...get up to...priming temp!

Hi, I've an old fridge, brought indoors from the cold garage, which currently has 50 bottles of John Bull Pilsner inside it and a heat belt (25W) on the bottom shelf, with a thermostat probe taped to the inner wall. We're topping out at 13°C, and I'm after 20°C...BOOO! Is there...

    Cold conditioning temperature

Hi, Another newbie question here. Feel free to hand me my cards! Just leaving my beer cold for a few weeks after primary and secondary fermentation are finished. Is there an ideal temp? I imagine as long as it doesn't freeze, or revisit the 18°+ range. Is there a rule of thumb? Thanks.

    Mixing question

A kit beer question. I've done 3 now and onto my 4th before trying to go deeper. This is SO basic someone will be able to answer instantly. But all kits have come with instructions to add some boiled/boiling water, followed by cold (up to 23L), then mix. I know enough basic science to know...

    Brewferm Abdij fermentation

Hi, I'm a novice brewer on my 2nd brew. I've followed the instructions to the letter for the Abdij, and now at the stage of letting the bottles mature for a number of weeks or even months, after having achieved the correct final gravity, with 2nd fermentation complete ("keep in a warm place"...

Pressure barrel - plenty gas but no follow-through

Hi all, Did a search etc, nothing relating to my particular issue. Perhaps because I'm a massive idiot. Complete newbie. 2 days in the pressure barrel for a primed kit beer I've fermented, and I wanted to turn the tap of the barrel (the balihoo standard one with the ballcock and syphon...
