    Crossmyloof

Sounds good!. Landlord was the only kit of theirs that went a bit wrong.. and that was down to my lack of temp control and the summer heat kicking in.. will try it again though as all others have been good. As an aside, I just cracked my first bottle of the oatmeal stout with Voss, now that's...

    Crossmyloof

More praise for tropical England from me, really tasty after 3 weeks in the bottle. The ama rye lo and shession pale also good, particularly the 2nd efforts that had some water adjustment. The only one that went awry was landlord. I think it got too warm at a late stage and took on fusel...

    Lack of carbonation.

Welcome Hopper!. The cold in the shed will indeed be the cause of the flat brew. My two current barrels have been ousted from the garage into the shed, and the cold spell has them almost completely flat. When it gets milder the fizz (such as it is in a barrel) will return. Glad to hear the AIPA...

    Porter without liquorice!

Not tried the Festival kit, but Woodfordes Nog is a nice dark ale/porter without any overly strong dominant flavors. Definitely not liqourish, that's for sure.

    Advice required.

Hi, I second Dutto's advice. You'd probably be pretty safe after a fortnight but a consistent hydrometer reading over 3 days will take any worry out of it. To take a sample out I use a sterilized ladle, some use a turkey baster or siphon.Whichever method- just open the lid for as little time as...

Wilko 20 pint starter brew kit

Hi, If its one of the bucket and snap on lid jobs- the gas will find a way out without having to leave it loose. I put an airlock on mine for last couple of brews and it barely bubbles! To grab a sample for readings I tend to sterilize a plastic ladle and jug, popping the lid open and shut as...

    'Simply' gluten free pale ale

Indeed! Think will stick to the Simply with some CML yeast & hops. That said- good to see an increase in options.

    'Simply' gluten free pale ale

Still on first batch here. Shared a bottle of it last night after trying a couple of regular store bought pale ales, and it stands up pretty well. Blindfolded i reckon I would have had a job to tell which was gluten free or even which was homebrew! Will definitely be keeping a supply on the go.

    Woodfordes nog tweak

Good question. I think it's a bit fuller than most dark of old ales I've had, but less Smokey than a lot of porters.

    Woodfordes nog tweak

Hi all, I always have a keg of Nog for the winter but have never tinkered with it. I have a Yorkshire bitter dry hopped with bramling cross conditioning, and that blackcurrant flavour really does come through- if you go that route would be eager to hear how that works. A slightly off topic...

    'Simply' gluten free pale ale

Looks good. Much the same slightly darker than expected colour here using a mish mash of sugar including brown. The Citra/cascade mix add a bit of zing for sure, but even without i think it would still be better than Greene Kings GF IPA. (that said, the GF ipa is nicer than their regular ipa!?)...

    'Simply' gluten free pale ale

Hi OP. I ended up bottling the lot out of the keg. Opened one last night for OH and was pretty impressed. Would have been pleased if it was a normal ale kit so for a GF kit, more so. Will be brewing it again. How did it turn out with the fuggles?

    Blackberry stout recipes recommendations

Hi Nick, I can't offer any expertise on the blackberry side of things, its something I'd been wondering about myself lately. Be interesting to see what further advice comes up. As far as kits go though, Woodfordes Nog is a nice porter/old ale kit that always come out nicely. Brews up in much...

    Newbie festival kit.

Just a thought ref carbonation. The caps on the barells are easily over tightened and the rubber seal loses contact. Worth putting a squirt of co2 in if poss and listening around cap for any leak just in case.. Do let us know how goes in long run, like the look of this kit for brewing later in...

    Newbie festival kit.

Hi Jesbongo. As Marlon says probably fine. Most kit instructions are extremely optimistic even in the most ideal conditions. My barrell brews also taking fair time to clear this time of year. Not a bad thing as generally speaking the beer will likely improve from the extra time. Lots of threads...

    'Simply' gluten free pale ale

Had a little "health check" taste last night (no sanitizer or manky tastes in the barrel which is good) Pretty promising. I mainly got this on for my girlfriend who has the gluten issues. Having tried a few bottled offerings from the shops (mixed to say the least) this seems up there. May have...

    'Simply' gluten free pale ale

Into pressure barrell yesterday. The added hops certainly balanced the sweetness found on last taster. Hoping it will now meld nicely over the coming weeks. Steve

    'Simply' gluten free pale ale

Hi Dutto, Yes, to look at you'd think it hasn't done a thing, but the readings are down after ten days so hops are in. Advice on time it keeps noted! Steve Ps thanks for the welcome earlier this week.

    'Simply' gluten free pale ale

Hi OP. That does indeed look good. Will let you know how mine goes, as by coincidence used half brown sugar when realised low on the brewing stuff. Have also just added some citrus and cascade hop pellets, just 25g each. See how that pans out. Yours gives me hope!! Cheers Steve
