Home brew Newbie - My First Setup Recommendations

Go for the table mounted capper. And think of electrical thermometers, like the Inkbird. Cost a few dozens of pounds more, pays back in sanity.

Ooops pitched my Kveik at 45C - will it be ok

Hm I wonder if at those temperatures it should be required/worthwile to re-oxygenate the wort? Go through it with a blender perhaps? Because hot wort can hold less oxygen than cold wort.

    Caught in the act.

The sadness... that ultimate defeated look. That boy deserves snacks!

The Love Brewing Trick or Treat Giveaway!

Fyne Panther! Great hop list, and the bitter yeast sounds tantalising!

No trucks, CO2 and Christmas is cancelled.

Supply and demand. And maaaybeee if being a teacher or nurse was a respectable job again... not in this society though.

Looking for a book on the history and development of beer styles

Radical Brewing, by Randy Mosher. And I +1 on Pattinson. Nearly had him booked for a talk last year, but you know: things and stuff...

What are you drinking tonight 2021?

Steam Brew IIPA I kinda quit brewing myself, so these cans fill an emptiness.

Aerate before or after pitching yeast

Before. It floats on top, on the edge of wort and air, with access to both: why submerge it? And if there's lots of foam, move the foam aside and pitch on the wort.

    Best opening song lyrics.

Humming this in class always gets the attention of some of my students: To the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day Hardly spoke to folks around him, didn't have too much to say No one dared to ask his business, no one dared to make a slip For the stranger there among them had a big...

How do you relax with a homebrew?

I have a set of Zwilling knives, some other assorted knives, I don't really mind the brand as long as they work well with my zwilling honing steel. I cannot understand people that don't get sharp-enough knives.

Covid the jab and the final stage.

I had Pfizer the other week, felt a bit 'uncomfortable' for a few days, but looking forward to June 22nd.

    Greg Hughes recipes

I left it in all stages longer than planned: 3 weeks in primary, a month in secondary, but it should be carbed by now. I might as well try one tonight. The tester (half bottle, lot of yeast, the last bit of the fermenter) was promising.

    Wee Heavy recipe

Malt bill looks good, Bramling Cross is a nice hop (reminds me to use it again!), but do not fiddle too much with the water. Tukkers water is good enough to drink, so it's good enough to brew with!

Using a blender to mix/dissolve DME

No, actually if you cool the main wort down to 18º or so and add a part afterwards, blended, that part will be very foamy and I expect the yeast to thrive on that. My negative effect would be spraying it all over the kitchen: I'm not good with blenders :laugh8:

Just a Christmas Brewing Noob Introducing Himself!

Greg Hughes wrote a good book, there are more, and they have been discussed here elsewhere. https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/brewing-book-recommendations.88578/ https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/books-for-brewing-please.74968/...
