    Getting fat

One thing to remember with the running calculation is that .75 * miles * lbs is the gross calculation and includes the basal calories. To work out the net usage it is .63 * miles * lbs. If you run enough (your mileage can build up surprisingly quickly), soon you have to worry more about getting...

    Gas burners

I use one of those. They are fine, but I build up a breeze block shield all around the base and half way up the copper. Enough air gets in, but not 'blustery', and keeps the heat in :thumb:

    Blue moon recipe?

Did this one a while ago, and will be doing it again in a week or two (perfect summer beer): http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f71/blue-balls-belgian-wit-blue-moon-clone-24978/ Cannot recommend it highly enough... Apart from maybe up the coriander and bitter orange peel a bit. :thumb:

SO4 fermented out in 3 days?

I've just had 1.045 down to 1.009 in 3 days. Left it a week to 'clean up' and make sure it was finished, but it can go like the clappers! :thumb:

    First Wort Hops

I believe it is meant to give a smoother and more rounded bitterness... Also you extract more AA, due to the hops being in there longer (so more bang for your buck, or you can use less hops)!

    Hop Growing 2011

I would cut the new sprouts down to the ground and let it concentrate on the main growth. On a 3rd year fuggles plant and have 2 new sprouts hiding in the middle, and just cut them to the ground this morning. :thumb:

    Cam lock fittings

+1 on these. If you go for a non static pipe setup, then these are great. They are on the end of all my piping, as well as a ball valve with a male one end and female on the other, so it can be added anywhere needed. Went for the stainless myself for the whole cleaning/sanitising reasons...

    I love my yeast

I normally give them a little 'speech' before inoculating my wort with them. Just a tradition I have from my first AG I did, and it's stuck (though none have my fermentations have!). :thumb:

    leffe brune plus fruit-first AG

I added some pectolase to a fruit beer I did recently (smushed fruit and pectolase added to the secondary). Turned out quite clear, but not polished. Be warned, its a PITA if you are syphoning it off the fruit! Hopefully you have a tap on your FV.

    champagne

Not sure if they would work, but how about the big Leffe bottles? Plus, when Asda are doing the big bottles @ £2 a go at the moment. :thumb:

    Hydrating yeast

Dried yeast will suck up pretty much ANYTHING into their cells as they rehydrate. This means with water, they just rehydrate, but with wort this includes sugars that I believe can crystalise inside the cells and burst them. This will not happen to all the cells, but if you rehydrate with water...

Hops how to tell when to harvest?

I've just harvested 1/2 of my 2nd year fuggles plant. Bit of a difference from last year! Managed to get 1.1kg of wet hops off it, and still got the other half to go (half has been getting better sun so will do the other half in a week or 2)!

    Corny Keg or King Keg?

Its best to drop the beer crystal clear (I either primary until clear or secondary if dry hopping). There should be enough yeast in clear beer to prime any extra bottles over (this is what I do), but not so much that it leaves any in the corny. You then just need to force carb the corny.

    Corny Keg or King Keg?

You are correct about the disconnects, and only need 1 set, if you are only carbonating/serving 1 beer at a time. I would try and hunt out a pub cylinder suppliers, as these are better value for money. My cylinder is £15.86 for a 6.35kg refill, compared to £7.99 for 360g on the widget world...

That looks hop-tastic :thumb: Good luck with the rest of the brew, Rick.

Chimley Belgium Pale Ale AG 25/07/2010

Just kegged the straight Chimley, and have to say it tastes like a mix between Chimay and Leffe Blonde. VERY happy with that. Has a good, but mild bitter start, banana and slightly floral toffee followed by a touch of spiciness. Finished at 1.014 so a healthy 5.4% ABV. The other 2 FV's have...

    Robust porter help

If you don't mind breaking style a little bit; I quite like a generous amount of Saaz in the last 10 mins of a porter. Seems to go really well and 'lift' it a bit. :thumb: I did this in an Imperial Porter with good results.

Rasputins Super Uber Imperial Rubber Ducky

Looks a right state! I hate having to clear up any normal wort, never mind treacle like wort! Is it just sitting in the garden at the mo? You could call it a 'feature'. Hopefully 'From great FUBARs, come great beers'. :thumb:

Rasputins Super Uber Imperial Rubber Ducky

Only a guess here. :wha: Water has a gravity of 1. So if you do 1 part wort to 1 part water, then double the reading this should work as it is a linear scale.
