Mead at less than 40p a bottle.

If anyone fancies making mead and lives within striking distance of a Lidl store, you're in luck. Not having made mead for a number of years, mainly because of the high price of honey I was pleasantly surprised to find honey at 75p for a 340g jar in our local Lidl. So 3 jars makes a gallon at a...

    Fly contamination.

We have had a plague of small flies this year. The other night I placed half a gallon of wine in a plastic lidded container in order to add finings. Unfortunately I found to my dismay I had run out of one item, so had to order a fresh supply. Whilst awaiting delivery by snail mail one of the...

    Why we do this.

Just done first racking of 2020 Raspberry. Already it's fallen clear and bright without fining, with a glorious colour and full bodied taste redolent of the fruit. And some people wonder why we go to all the trouble! Cheers!

    Oak Leaf Wine

I've just had first taste of this year's oak leaf wine. Although still young it shows potential to be really great after a few months maturing, and I strongly recommend trying it. As the only ingredients besides the actual leaves are sugar, yeast, nutrient and citric acid (or lemon juice) it is...

    Rice and raisin wine.

I bought some raisins for a batch of wine and didn't use all of them so I thought I'd make some rice and raisin wine which I made years ago and remember it was OK. Does anyone have recipe? I think the one I used specified brown rice but not sure. Any help appreciated thanks!

    The comparison site scam.

It makes sense to use a comparison site when your car insurance is due for renewal doesn't it? Or does it? I'm a pensioner driving a six year old car valued at about £4,500 which has a weedy little engine. I do about 4000 miles a year - if that. I've got decades of no claims bonus and my car is...

    red grape juice

Hi all. It's coming up to the season for picking red fruits and berries and I usually start off a brew with a litre of red grape juice. I've been getting this from Lidl - really cheap - but it looks like they've stopped doing it. Does anyone know of anywhere where I can get cheap red grape juice...

    Blending wine.

Over the years I've experimented with blending wines - usually to avoid wasting a wine which is either too sweet or maybe too bland on its own. The most successful examples are blackberry/elderberry and most recently celery/peach. The blackberry imparts a fruity hint and negates some of the...

    Japanese knotweed wine.

This weed which is rapidly spreading countrywide can apparently be used to make a wine something like rhubarb. I just wondered if anyone had tried it.

    Hi Guys.

I've been brewing for longer than I care to remember. I started off with First Steps and I've still got a dog-eared copy which I refer to as "The Bible". Not had much success with beer (exploding bottles et..) So I stick to wine. Hope to share my decades of experience and who knows - maybe pick...
