Selling all my gear as to busy to do any brewing these days and far too many other hobbies. Most of this kit has never been used such as the mash tub, a lot of the chemicals etc. I cannot remember how many litre the brew kettle is but it was the largest I could find at the time and has only been...

Thanks for the replies and Dutto , great info from you. Its only a thought at the moment for a future project possibly. It is also the first container I found on the search so I am pretty sure there will be better. With regards to siting it, well no probs when your single as no one to complain...

    Blow off tube problem

Thanks for the advice...I will most likely need a couple of bungs and another tip is to drill plastic with support under it..ie. onto a soft wood.

    Blow off tube problem

I was told this by a brew shop the other day also....its a really weak mixture and of course there is a positive pressure coming the other way.

    Blow off tube problem

Seems to be working so far though I haven't heard much in the way of glugging via the tube. Might be a case of the most lively fermentation is over maybe, even so after the brew is finished I am going to re think it and maybe try larger tubing with a better seal.

    DIY conical fermenter ????

I fully expect someone has made a conical fermenter here but I saw this whilst looking this eve. I used to have one for my hens so know what they are like but if anyone has converted one what fittings did you use for the bottom where the yeast bottle goes. I am going to have a think about it or...

    Blow off tube problem

Well I just returned and it wasn't working I looked at the link above. So I got an air lock and put that in the hole in the lid but...... I had enlarged that earlier as just had the tube in there.....so definitely there was an error in my method earlier! But I managed to get a snug fit with an...

    Blow off tube problem

Thanks for the replies. Yes first time I have used a blow off tube so the only way to see if it worked was by seeing the failure. In the time I posted to checking your replies I had drilled out a rubber bung and pushed the probe through it and obtained an airtight seal, which where I eventually...

    Blow off tube problem

Having added a yeast starter to an extract brew last night I checked on the ferment and it has certainly got off to a good start....too good ! I put a blow off tube in the lid of the bucket but it hasn't worked. Not sure why, anything that I could have done wrong? There were no kinks in it and...

    Yeast Bank ????

Main reason I suggested it is although we can buy the yeasts in packs there are times when like myself you manage to procure some from the brewery. I have looked on how do store them via freeing but not drying, might have a look and see what I can find.

Converting a regular keg to a corny keg

Just saw this post and noted the part about Keg Watch. But I know a small brewer near me who has plastic kegs which I am guessing were brought in to stop thieves. I would imagine they are the same connector as normal kegs, so would that connector work on them as I was thinking of asking him if I...

    Cheap mash tun thermometer

I agree, loads of bargains on sites like that. I buy a lot of items from China and Far Eastern countries. Their customer service is superb and the quality of 99 percent of the stuff has been great.

    What are you drinking tonight?

Guinness West Indies Porter, very nice drop. Never had Porter before but it will be on my to do list of beers.

    Yeast Bank ????

Yes I agree totally so it could only be something done on trust. Although once you have the sample yeast you would be making a starter anyway in order to see if the yeast was healthy.

    Yeast Bank ????

Not sure if this has been suggested before but has anyone ever thought of a yeast bank on the forum? For example I got some lovely yeast direct from the Ringwood Brewery today and intend to freeze some either on agar or in Glycerol, be it for a training exercise for me as they said I could have...

Bag of Rinwood yeast, what to do?

Thanks for the replies gents. Thumper, they are my favourite beers too, real easy drinking and lovely malty taste. I have done as suggested and had pre boiled a couple of Kilner jars as pre-empted the answers as such. Two jars filled and cut 50/50 with sterilised water, though I think there...

Bag of Rinwood yeast, what to do?

Ringwood Brewery have kindly given me a whopping bag of there yeast taken freshly from a fermenter. Now as I am not intending brewing for a week or two what are my best options please? I don't want to keep it in a bag as to easy to puncture. So I am thinking of sterilising two Kilner jars and...
