    GEEKAHOL

Lol maybe the clove one will improve?! Although the colours may disappear, my Kool-aid-pops are all completely clear now!

    SUMMERSWAP 2013 (WINE)

Sorry it's taken me so long to add my review, the wine got misplaced and it turned up in a box in the shed with the other homebrew! I'm a walking disaster, honestly!! It was a white wine, and I must say it was delicious :D nice and sweet, almost peachy maybe? I chilled it a little...

    Lesson learned!

Lol, that could work, except they disposed of the contents themselves and just left me the bottles! Normally I do keep them for bottling, but there's just so many (and I already have a stash of them), and most have cigarette butts in them

    Lesson learned!

I may have to put a padlock on my homebrew when certain friends call round. We had a few drinks on Saturday night, I wasn't really drinking my blackcurrant cider as it was still carbonating in the fridge, so I just had one pint and then started on the Buckfast, but when I got up the next...

    The husband creche

I have been saying for years that shopping centres need a Man Creche! I swear they'd do much better trade if they had somewhere for hubbies to go and amuse themselves and stay out of our way :thumb:

    5 gallon hard cider

It does feel a bit silly lugging 23+ cartons of apple juice to the till in a supermarket, and you do need a car or taxi to get them home! But it's worth it, rather than diluting the juice. The cartons are often displayed in boxes of 12, so you just need to lift two boxes really! You can always...

Early Christmas gift - Made a Leather Tankard (Pic Heavy)

That is fantastic!! :hat: (Please don't show my OH or it'll be another thing on the list of stuff I've got to make for him!) The belt loop is a lovely touch and a brilliant idea! I had a wee go at leatherwork myself, managed to make a small tobacco pouch as practise for making a few bigger...

    WineSwap Feedback

Sorry I haven't posted my review yet, I've not been feeling well enough to have a drink  but I'm looking forward to it so will drink it tonight :) That was mine, thank you for the kind review, although from seeing that photo I've just realised what I did   It was a...

    Mead recipe wanted please

The summer fruit mead is similar to a recipe I use and is my favourite so far :thumb: My method is slightly different, I ferment the honey and 4l water with yeast and half the dose of nutrient (1/2 tsp), then add the other 1/2 tsp about 4 days later or so. When it has finished fermenting, I...

    Vegan mead

I don't know if the agave nectar will work, but you can always try a small batch to experiment, using a one or two litre plastic drinks bottle, and a balloon for an airlock (or drill a hole in the bottle lid for the airlock). Maple syrup as someone suggested might be a good alternative, but any...

Re: Wilco 30 bottle white wine kit

That's it done fermenting probably, unless it's supposed to finish bone-dry. It may well have been finished weeks ago, the airlock still bubbles occasionally after fermentation to let out excess gas. One bubble or less per minute is usually "done" in my book, and I've never had anything take...

I wanna join in the fun too!

Thanks PD, that's the thread I couldn't find earlier! Right so, ale is "bitter" beer then, because of the hops. I've been trawling through the recipes (would you believe I've never noticed that section before  ) to find a simple one, and I'm looking forward to getting started. Are the...

I wanna join in the fun too!

Thank you for your reply, I did try a search and found a couple of recipes, however I'm still not sure of the actual process... I thought I saw a thread on the subject once, but can't find it now! I know I'll have to do a bit more research on here before jumping in. I do have a couple of large...

I wanna join in the fun too!

As a wine and cider maker, I've usually skipped past threads on brewing beer from grains and hops and stuff, since I don't like beer I've never had the interest to make it. But after seeing a thread on one-gallon beer recipes I have become intrigued, perhaps my OH would like some proper...

    stopped smoking

Brilliant news :thumb: You can do it :D If you're aiming to stop completely then do try to get off the e-cig as soon as you feel ready, I know a few people who have used them, but mostly as cigarette replacement rather than smoking cessation. Find something else to do with your hands, and...

    Priming amounts

Sounds fine :thumb: I like a very fizzy cider, so I use plenty of sugar. I haven't weighed it, but I use a level measuring teaspoon full of sugar per 500ml, which I'd guess is at least 5g if not more. With plastic bottles I go a little wild and add extra sugar just to be sure!

    more questions from a novice...sorry!

As oldbloke says, you can stop a wine from fermenting, but it's probably easier to just let the yeast ferment fully, either once it has gone dry or the yeast have died of alcohol toxicity (in which case the wine may be sweet enough, and unlikely to carbonate). Once the wine has fermented to dry...

Elder flower champagne- increasing alcohol content/ recipes?

Yes put the nutrient in at the same time, and use airlocks on your DJs. It will continue to release gas for some time after fermentation is over, so airlocks are needed until bottling time. If you want fizzy wine, just add a little sugar (10g per litre should do it) at bottling time, and bottle...
