Will the increase in new Homebrewers be good for brewing and beer after Coronavirus passes?

The Homebrew shops are busier than ever, and people are turning to homebrewing, potentially as "something to do" but also I believe because they always had a hankering to give it a go. Some will fall by the wayside as life get's back to normal, but some will continue. Some of those may even...

    Geterbrewed?

I placed an order now more than 2 weeks ago, and it's gone pear shaped, which I guess is not unexpected in the current climate. There are 2 issues, the first is Parcel-force who are a complete shower to be polite about it.... the second unfortunately is GEB. There communications have been...

The Portman group strikes again........ Fourpure hit this time.

Pasted below is one of a number of reports from the last day or two regarding Fourpure falling foul of the Portman group for having Oranges on its Juicbox IPA. The Portman group has a role to play for sure, for example I am not a fan and have never been (aside from when I was dumb teenager) of...

    Using water from a dehumidifier?

I have to admit that I don't pay much attention to water, other than chucking half a Campden tablet in. It's an area that I really should learn a little more about really. That said, my wife suffers from ashthma and our bedroom is subject to a damp atmosphere when it rains as we are up in the...

Question about kegging, as I'm new to it.

I have been bottling for a while, but a short while back bought a Corny keg and lines and gas etc. The question is..... if I have a brew that is approaching FG, as in OG was 1.053 and I'm expecting 1.010 to finish, can I lightly crash as it's already beginning to clear, and let the last 10...

    My first drain pour.

Well it finally happened, I drain poured about 15lt of a hazy pale ale I brewed. Thing is.... I'm not unhappy about it! I brewed a hazy Pale ale, with Hornindal Kveik yeast, and plenty of juicy hops. All came together quite well, but when tasting I noted a particular background taste of...

Harvest yeast from blow off container?

Last weekend I brewed an American Wheat beer, and made a good sized starter. The fermentation went bonkers, with a massive Krausen that soon overwhelmed the large head space and airlock and I had to quickly rig a blow-off pipe into a container of water and starsan. It calmed down yesterday and I...

Using a refractometer for end of fermentation...

Can anyone help me? I use a refractometer for determining OG. I know it's resonably giving the same readings at my Hydrometer, having tried both together when I got it. I understand that alcohol affects the refractometer readings post fermentation, but I cannot get my head around the adjustment...

Sous Vide sealing machines in Lidl at moment.

Hope this is the right place, but Lidl currently have their Silvercrest Sous Vide bag Sealing and vacuum machines in stock at £19.99, with spare rolls of tube for £3.99. They work very well and I've just been sealing up all my spare bits of Hops for the freezer. I also intend to use my Robobrew...

    Undercarbonated bottles

I bottled a batch of Smash Styrian Wolf a couple of weeks back, and tried one last night. The carbonation is a little disappointing(to me). They're all in screwtop PTE bottles, so it would be easy to open and drop in some more sugar, and quickly sanitise the caps. Is that an acceptable method?

    Using DME to prime bottles?

I have about 17 litres of an Ale to bottle(once I've left off the trub and hops), and wondered about using DME rather than table sugar. I've used table sugar before, and appreciate it can "Dry" a beer, but I like drier beers and it's been very easy with a funnel to dose each bottle before...

Stalled fermentation, pitched more yeast, and added DME.......

Okay, bear with me... I did a stout recipe, and got an OG of 1.057. Pitched the yeast and got some good bubbling etc, left it 2 weeks, measured and the FG was at 1.030. Waited another week, no movement, Pitched a new sachet of yeast after hydrating it, waited a week, nothing. Added enough water...

How can I up the abv of my wheat beer?

I did a kit AG wheat beer, but didn't seem to get as much boiloff as expected and had an OG of 1035. I'd intended this to be a Blackberry wheat beer, and froze, and then pasteurised about 3kg of blackberries and chucked them in after a week. It's been a couple of weeks now with some movement on...

Adding Blackberries to a beer question.

Morning all, I am collecting Blackberries with a plan to making a Blackberry Wiessbeer. I have all the ingredients for a plain AG Weiss, but am wondering about the blackbeery addition and the treatment of them. My vague plan led by what I've read here and there is to collect the Blackberries...

Brewing "off piste" for the first time.

I'm still very much a noob, and have stuck so far to kits or recipes. All the beer so far has been lovely to my untrained palate. I had a kilo of German Pilsner malt left over, and thought about it for a few days. After a quick trip to my nearest HB shop, I decided to brew a "Pilsnerillo" 4kg...

King Keg top tap losing pressure.

Hi Chaps, I bought a second hand King Keg top tap a month or two back with a pressure cap and a small cylinder. It was a very good price. It won't hold pressure though, but has no apparent leaks. I'm suspecting the cap seal, or the pressure cap mechanism are leaking slowly there appear to be...

    Yeast quantities per brew.

I'm reposting part of another thread here as it's probably the more appropriate place. I split a brew yesterday, so I could add some aroma and flavours to a small part of the batch. I brewed 23 litres from an all grain ingredient kit. I split off 4 litres at the end of the boil into another...

Saison yeast not started yet, and I split the brew.

Hi guys, Yesterday I brewed a Geterbrewed Marching Saison all grain kit. All went well, and inspired by a recipe on here, at the last 10 mins of boil I quickly lifted out 4 litres from the 21 or so...... Lobbed it in my small boil stockpot and continued the boil with the addition of Lemon peel...

So my friends commented on my beer that I'd brewed.....

Had a BBQ yesterday for the missus' birthday. I'd brewed a SMaSH Citra some time back in preperation for it, and went out and bought a cheap £20 fridge to stand in the garden with beer and ice in it for people to help themselves from. (The fridge will get fitted with a heater and controller very...
