    Putting off bottling

I can't tempt fate that much, I've got some friends coming round at the weekend!

    Putting off bottling

Thanks chaps, glad I'm not the only one. ;-) I'll leave it be for now. I found out the problem - apparently I'm up to something. She doesn't know what and neither do I for that matter. We had one of those circular conversations: Wife: "I know you're up to something" Me: "Oh... What is it?"...

    Putting off bottling

Alright dudes. I've had a brew in the FV for 2 weeks which is ready to bottle. The thing is that wife has given me a squillion "just jobs" (Could you just put up a shelf, paint the kitchen, lay a patio, cure world famine, etc...) How long can I leave it in unopened in the brew fridge before it...

A question I really should know the answer to!

I think there's something in it - I made a batch a while back that gave me a stonking brain ache after a few. They did the same to everyone who had more than a couple. It was only ~5.5%.

    Bought beer..

Pretty much the only thing I buy is Riggwelter as I really like it. Now I've started AG I'll be trying to emulate it at some point...

    Ales to try around Cambridge?

The world is getting smaller all the time! I guess the Three Tuns is more largery - the rooms are quite nice mind. The accommodation on Granta Park is waaaaay cheaper though. I guessed you've already discovered that the 13 bus (or any of the derivatives) takes you in and out of Cambs. ;-)

    Ales to try around Cambridge?

I work at Granta Park and used to live in Linton so you're on my stomping ground. :-) The Three Tuns in Great Abington usually has quite a good selection on. Otherwise it's in to Cambs - Pint Shop always has a huge selection. If you don't mind getting in the car then there are quite a few...

    Using an old cake

Right, gotcha. I'm brewing around 5% just now so sounds like it should be fine. I'm also using a 25L bucket for a 10-12L brew so plenty of head space. If I remember, I'll take a sample of yeast suspension to work and chuck it on a cell counter to check viability/cell count/ etc. Thanks to...

    Using an old cake

Thanks for the replies. The general consensus is don't use it all then! Keeping a bit back in the fridge sounds like an interesting option... What's the general idea - mix up the cake with the dregs of the previous brew then stick it in a jar/similar? Thinking as I type; would this not...

    Using an old cake

Hello again everyone. I've got a brew on at the mo which is due to finish up next weekend. Because I'm fiddling with recipes I'm only doing small batches (~10L) and I'm planning on getting another brew on straight away that's a very similar style as the current one. I'm thinking of getting the...

    They've got it taped

This is great news! I've got a couple of old Walkmans, a personal CD player and a reel to reel somewhere in the loft. I might stick them on eBay with "vintage" and "retro" in the title to induce some hipster chump in to giving me loadsa money for them. :-)

    What did you brew today?

Brewed up my first all grain affair the other day. Took quite a while to complete and I can't wait to give it a try!

    What are you drinking tonight.

Having a toot on my recent Wilkinsons stout and it ain't half bad.

    Run out of beer

@Dutto - sage advice! When this stout is finally in bottles I want to get another something on the brew asap. My problem is I've only got 50 odd bottles. Now that I've knocked out some tasty beer I'm reluctant to buy any in and I can't bring myself to buy empty bottles either. Has anyone had...

    Run out of beer

Yes I have. I'm intending on joining in but my village shop is a bit lacking in selection! Next time I pop to town I'll grab them up.

    Run out of beer

Had a minor hiccup with the stout I'm brewing at the mo. In true Muntons style I suffered a stuck brew and no amount of warming or rousing did the trick so I ended up repitching another lot of yeast. It's going to be a week or two until bottling and thanks to my generosity in letting some chums...
