    Portsmouth Homebrew Club

Hello everyone A few of us in Portsmouth have decided to organise a regular get together for homebrewers in the area. We are meeting for the first time at 7pm on Tuesday 4th March at The Leopold Tavern on Albert Road in Southsea. If you're in the area, come along and play a part in the birth of...

    Best Serving Temperature

I keep mine at 8c. I am a heathen from a country where we see the sun more than a handful of times a year. It's just the way I like it.

Best area to invest time and money to improve beer

A few years ago when I mentioned upgrading my brewing process to improve my beer, my plan was to use a fridge as a fermentation chamber. The advice I got from a friend was that the best way to improve the enjoyment of my beer was to use the fridge for a kegerator. It was the single best piece of...

    The malt miller

I've used MaltMiller since meeting him in Skipton a few years ago. The fantastic service really is normal business for him. I don't see how it could be any better...

For those that worry about 'cloudy' beer

I'm not totally convinced by this article either. Surely any losses in flavour can be rectified by recipe adjustment? I fine my beer because I like it to look good. I then base my recipe decisions on what the clear beer tastes like. If I need more hops, I add more hops. I've never thought "my...

    W. etherspoons ale festival.

I was in the JDW in Repton on Friday night and had a few. I also had the choco brownie thing which was a bit much. I also had an unremarkable American Bitter Red and then a surprisingly good Cream Ale. I had already visited a few other pubs before I wandered into JDW, it was the £2,50 burger...

Fining and Force Carbonating at the same time

I have a few cheap plastic kegs that I transfer to from my FV, I'll fine in them and then transfer the bright beer to my cornies.

    Great customer service

This morning I placed a large order with my usual homebrew supplier but forgot to ask for all the grain to be uncrushed. Rob contacted me before he processed the order just to check if I'd like it crushed or not. He obviously pays attention to my buying habits and noticed I'd missed this. I...

    Ghent, Belgium

The missus and I spent a weekend in Ghent and we loved it. The best bar we went to was the Backdoor @ Sint Amandstraat 26. The best selection of beers and a great vibe. We stumbled out of there at 4am after spending a lot of money on beer.

    North Devon Homebrewers

I'll be holidaying in Croyde from 15th August to 27th. I was wondering if there were any homebrewers in the area or even a homebrew club nearby. I'd love to meet up and share a few brews.

Cornelius kegs, "gas should not be left on"

It was my understanding that a liquid will only absorb CO2 until the amount dissolved is in equilibrium with the amount of pressure exerted upon it. If liquid were able to absorb CO2 endlessly (or even to high levels) with minimal pressure then we'd be able to rely on just atmospheric pressure...

Worst book you ever read (or tried to)

The Naked Lunch - W S Burroughs, just didn't enjoy it and found it hard work. Also felt the need to wash my hands after each read.

    Favourite book you have read...

Perdido Street Station by China Miéville, was given to me by a friend while on holiday. Was brilliant. The Magician (plus the 2 next books) by Raymond E Feist, also good.
