    Using water from a dehumidifier?

We have had dehumidifiers over the years and as someone else said, the pipework and the water collection tray always appeared to have mildew(y) type things growing in and on them. I would never consider drinking the water from a DH boiled or not, especially when there is perfectly good tap and...

    Too much sugar!

I have played around with increasing Abv using sugars and extract. Worked well and although the flavours and body weren't affected at all, the greater amount of sugar or extract added seemed to make the beer taste very dry.

Do you scrape off the pre-boil foam?

I Always skim pre boil and during boil. Was told it leads a hand to beer clarity and haven't had cause to doubt this advice.

    Hand pull beer pumps

You can get non workers for around £20 to £50 on the likes of Ebay or Gumtree. These can be stripped down (if newer and spares are available) and made good if competent for around another £25 to £50 depending on spares and seal kits required. You can pick a "working" pump up again from ebay etc...

Angram CO Beer Engine Advice Needed

Cannot help with the assembly as I don't have angram pumps. I use line cleaner once a week. Beer stays on for a week in cooler weather before removing for a line clean. I use beer bags and not pressurised barrels (never seen the need for pressure on an engine), no air gets in as the bag has a...

    Best Beer Names

One I remember from the past was a Wychwood brew from yester year that went by the name of "The Dog's B0ll0cks". Was amusing for a while to ask for pints of B0ll0cks at the bar... Sorry had to edit as the profanity filter just put ****** up for the naughty word. Any way to turn the filter off...

    Help cleaning beer engines

Try pumps with like warm water checking they work and have no leaks. Do not use and sort of PBW cleaner as such through it. If they work and you want to use them you need purple line cleaner which is made for cleaning beer lines. It will turn green when being drawn through the lines if there...

    What BBQ?

I've used a gas bbq for about 10 years now and would never go back to charcoal. Charcoal messy and time consuming. Current Bbq was from asda about 3 years, 4 burners and a side plate. It also has solid cast iron grill plates which are better than the flimsy wire ones. Gas bbq still gives a good...

    Cold crashing sucks

I always cold crash down to 2 or 3 degrees, this gives me a good clean ale before bottling or brewing. Yes you still get a little sediment but a lot less than not crashing. I just lift the top on my blow off when Crashing so no liquid gets pulled back but the blow off is a small one so I don't...

What's a good FV to use

I have used plastic FV's, specifically fron The Range for years now. 50 odd brews in and no issues. I have replaced them once due to scratching on the insides.

    Bottling

Around an hour for me, if I bottle a 20 to 25 litre brew into 500ml bottles. That includes cleaning the equipment up after bottling also.

    Extract vs AG (Savings)

Never really worked out the price of a pint i make but I don't think it is that expensive inclusive of gas used for mashing and brewing. I started using kits with tins if extract but in my opinion, 4 out of 5 were foul and not worth the price or hassle. Moved on to AG and partial and even if it...

    Under primed brew

Did you not dissolve the sugar in boiling water (allowing to cool after dissolving) before putting the solution into the brew?? Just leave them to see what they turn out like and learn from the mistake.

    I've had a disaster!

Have to agree with you there. Never trusted the guy since he produced a how to video on brewing and was advising potential users to use plumbers mate. I asked why he was using something that shouldn't be used with potable water devices as it contained potentially toxic chemicals... Well the...
