Adding hops to a Young's IPA brew

Thanks for the very quick response, I guess you're correct in your comments. Usually my IPA turns out really good, just didn't want to mess this brew up! I find the Young's real ale kits produce very repeatable (and drinkable!!) results. I really must try brewing from scratch with ingredients...

Adding hops to a Young's IPA brew

Hi everyone, I am currently in the process of hopping my latest Young's American IPA brew. When the fermentation was measured at an SG of 1.008 for each of two days I sprinkled the hops onto my brew. I did this on Sunday afternoon. Today the surface of my brew looks like the attached photo...

    Young's IPA kit dry hopping

Clint, thanks for responding. Yes I have measured the SG at 1.007 before adding the hope. Fermentation seemed to have stopped at that point, about 14 or 15 days since starting the brew. Didge, I have seen others use the nylon hop bag, maybe I'll order one to try for my next brew.

    Young's IPA kit dry hopping

Hi Ridge, thanks for your response. This morning I've turned off the heater mat, as you suggest I will leave it for a couple of days and see if the dissolved hope sink to the bottom. I think maybe I did bottle the last brew a day or two too early. I'll use all the priming sugar as usual this...

    Young's IPA kit dry hopping

Hi all, I am brewing my favourite IPA kit again, having done it several times before. I added the dry hops on Monday, simply sprinkling them onto the top of the brew as usual. Now I am thinking of siphoning off into another fermentation vessel to reduce some of the sediment in the brew before I...

My Young's IPA brew is ready to bottle

Hi All, I have my 4th Young's IPA brew ready to bottle. Having decanted it from the original FV into another vessel leaving the Lees behind I unfortunately left the last few pints very cloudy indeed as I tilted the ordinal FV and then accidently dropped it back to a level surface while...

    Faulty thermometer

Hi all, I put the thermometer in a plastic bag, wrapped tightly around it then secured with plastic bands at each end. The bag was one of those thin ones you get (or used to!) in supermarkets to put fruit/veg in, so it has a couple of “handles” as part of the bag. Twisted those together and...

    Faulty thermometer

Doh! Didn't think about either of those simple solutions! Must be getting old! Well 67. Thanks Chippy Tea and Banbeer.

    Faulty thermometer

Thanks Chippy Tea. Wonder how I'm going to secure it well enough that it doesn't fly off and smash!

    Faulty thermometer

Hi All, I have an old Boots brand Floating beer makers Thermometer, had it for about 30 years. Its given me great service. For my latest brew went to measure the wort temperature prior to adding yeast, found my trusty thermometer looking like the photo, so how do I get the red fluid back in the...

    Youngs American IPA brew

Thanks for those replies. I agree this AIPA kit does seem to clear well. Just thought I'd try some kind of findings to see if it improve the clarity even more. This is the third time I've brewed this kit, great results so far each time. A wonderful pint without a dou

    Youngs American IPA brew

Hi all, I have an AIPA brew that's ready to add the hops (SG 1.008 steady over 48 hours). I will do that later today. My question is that I want to try some findings to clear the brew. I have some Britewort tablets, could I crush one of those and add it to the brew or should I buy another...

    Britewort Tablets

Hi all, just about to start a Youngs American IPA kit for the third time. A great kit that produces consistent results in my opinion. This time I thought I would use some Britewort during the boil to see how much difference it makes to the finished clarity of the beer. My question is for this 40...

    Youngs American Pale Ale brew

Thanks for responding, it's just the hops I added, does look very tea like though! If I leave the hops to settle at the bottom of the FV for a couple of days, they will have been in the brew for 4 or 5 days, isn't that too long? Will it damage the brew?

    Youngs American Pale Ale brew

Hi all, Thought I'd try a Youngs APA kit, put it on 20 days ago. At an SG reading of 1.006 two days ago I added the hops. Brew now looks like this picture I took this morning. Is that okay? Or should I have left it to ferment a little longer? I was intending to bottle the brew today or...

    Northern Brewer FV markings

Thanks Llamaman for the quick response, I agree with you and feel I should top up to 23 Litres, which I marked on the vessel earlier today. Maybe I might just top up to a little less than the recommended 23 Litres, I don't want a weak brew.
