Hi all, I'm about to embark on the world of all-grain brewing. First up it's a double IPA, around the 10%ABV mark. I've been looking at other people's water-to-grain ratios for the initial mash and most come out at roughly 2.5 - 3 litres to every kilo of grain. In my case that's roughly 15...
Hi all. I just got my first carboy, and the rubber bung I bought for it stinks. It's like a hot water bottle, swimming cap and manure combined. I've soaked it in water for a few days and the smell hasn't gone. I can't seem to find an alternative. Will this odour be imparted to my beer?
Thank you
Hi all, I've Googled the **** out of it to no avail. I'm talking the Old Chimneys version, not the Goose Island version. Any one have a good clone recipe?
Hi guys. I've decided to go full BIAB, so no liquid extract. So, too derail my own thread slightly, how much yeast will I need for 8 litres of impy stout wort? I've ordered a WYeast burton ale smack pack. Will that likely be enough?
Sorry, another question. How much hops is too much, bearing in mind I'll be making 20 litres of impy stout and using frozen hops from the garden? It's my first real foray into the creative side of homebrew and I want to go slightly over the top on flavour.
Thanks a bunch. If I were to hop it up with fresh Fuggles from the garden at what point might I add them in? Bearing in mind they're for flavouring and not bitterness.
Some great suggestions all taken on board. Thanks everybody. I really like the idea of using steeping gains, muscovado sugar and treacle. I shall be ordering ingredients after payday so I'll run my recipe past you guys beforehand.
Hi all, I have a bunch of Fuggles hops growing in my garden that I'd like to use in an imperial stout (would that be weird?). Only thing is I'm still at the malt extract stage of brewing. Can anyone suggest a simple extract recipe for such a beer? Thanks.
Thanks for all the replies. So, as there isn't much difference between sugar and spray malt, I gather there isn't much difference between light and medium spray malt?
Ah, okay. Yeah, I've used it before and it's really messy, plus the residue sticks to the bottle.
Sorry, what do you mean by prime exactly? And would it still be 'fizzy' without the use of spray malt? Proper newbie here.
Hi all, first time poster. I'm brewing a NEIPA using a basic brew kit from Get Er Brewed. There's no mention of using spray malt in the instruction but every basic kit I've used so far has recommended it. Should I go ahead and use it anyway?
Thanks.
