    Constant Ruined Brews - Oxidised?

Hi Devlin, do you keep the filled bottles at room temperature for a couple of weeks then move them somewhere cool, for a week or two before tasting? Are you putting your dry hops in a muslin bag or just directly into the fermentation vessel? edit (only read the first page so someone might have...

First All Grain Brew - Ideas Welcome

I don't have any honey in the house at the moment but I do have a 907g tin of Golden Syrup. Could I just use this, or should I wait until I can get some honey? I've noticed that the beer is fermenting very slowly too. Could this be because of the hops? Maybe the yeast is struggling. It was M44...

First All Grain Brew - Ideas Welcome

Thanks for the advice Zephyr259. I'll leave it to mature as I've got two other beers conditioning and loads of nice ready-to-drink stuff in the garage. Next time I'll wait for replies before getting on with it.

First All Grain Brew - Ideas Welcome

I do like a bitter beer but you two have got me a bit worried now (need to read more about hops/IBU's) Is there anything I could dry hop it with to sweeten it up a bit? Or maybe add a bit of honey or something?

First All Grain Brew - Ideas Welcome

Thanks for the comments. I only had some Citra and Fuggles left so I put about 30 grams of each in at 60, 40, 20 and zero minutes. Got about 23 litres in the FV and an OG of 1.050 so I'm hoping it will be drinkable

First All Grain Brew - Ideas Welcome

To resurrect this thread, I have 4kg of Maris Otter left over from my Christmas order but don't like to brew anything less than 5 gallons. Could I just use this to get around 4% abv or should I wait until I can get more grain and follow a recipe? I have a few hops in the fridge I can add

    All Grain kit question

Aye, sister in law just called to confirm it. Said it seemed so cheap she bought 2.clapa The pump on my Robobrew is coping better this time too. It got overwhelmed last time. Not sure if I should keep the recircirculation pump on constantly though?

    All Grain kit question

I'm still quite new to all grain brewing and the two kits I've ordered before came from Geterbrewed and came with reasonable instructions so it went ok. This time, because I have relatives in Devon, decided to order a kit from The Hop Shop in Plymouth for christmas which they could pick up for...

    First Wow wine brew.

My fruit juice wine is so popular with the wife and her friends I decided to start another batch off with Lidl apple and carrot Juice at the weekend. I soon realised I'd run out of wine yeast so used some spare beer yeast I had hanging around from an extract kit. It's fermenting nicely in the...

    Youngs American IPA

I brewed the Youngs American IPA back in August and the colour surprised me. I was expecting it to be a light colour, like on the box. Took a long time to carbonate too but once it did it was quite nice. I thought they had sent the wrong malt extract in the pack at the time but didn't...

    New Wilko kits

My 'Feeling Hoppy' fermented very slow, even at a constant 20c, and finished at 1.012. I added Muntons Brew enhancer and a bit of honey at the beginning and so the final abv was about 4.5. It's our favourite drink at the moment so it's disappearing fast.

    What did you brew today?

I'm going to be Brewing 'The Big Belfast Blonde Ale' (from Geterbrewed) tonight using my brand new Robobrew. I'm a bit nervous as it's the first brew with this and it's only my second all-grain kit.

    Refractometer question

Hi Bigcol, I did use the calculater on brewers friend but not sure if it takes into account the wort correction factor. Going to have to do some reading on the subject I think

    Refractometer question

I recently bought a refractometer and it's giving confusing results. I tested a beer, which had a starting gravity of 1.060, with my hydrometer. I was reading the hydrometer before bottling as about 1.015 which gave me an ABV of 5.91% My refractometer has both Brix scale and SG Wort reading...

    My first kettle

Is there a particular reason to chill the wort foxbat? Would there be any problem leaving it overnight in an airtight bucket? I don't fancy having water hoses strewn across the kitchen floor.

    My first kettle

Also a Yorkshireman, and being new to all grain, I've been thinking about the same thing. I spotted this at the Hop Shop: https://www.home-brew-hopshop.co.uk/mashing-equipment/2295-745-pan-heavy-duty-stainless-steel.html#/130-volume-50_litre Would this be suitable for BIAB and how many litres...
