    Youngs American IPA

Ah, OK that's good, sorry I should have twigged! Yes sounds like you're getting on fine, likely be a good beer! Definitely make a sugar syrup first before mixing to beer. If you try and dissolve granulated sugar into cool-ish beer I think you'll have a terrible time mixing it evenly! If it's...

    Youngs American IPA

I wouldn't transfer to secondary. TBH it's rarely done these days. Every time you open or transfer your beer you're introducing oxygen, which causes oxidation, a killer of good beer! The less the better. I don't think a cold crash is necessary for you. A cold crash could be beneficial if 1...

    Youngs American IPA

Yes that's a great idea if you have plastic bottles. If you are bottling in glass, it's a good trick to do one in plastic (eg old coke fizzy pop bottle), as AHR indicated, you can the squeeze the plastic bottle to see if carbonation is done.

Hmm, body is mainly determined by sugars left in the beer and the final gravity (lower = less body/sugar but more alcohol). That's not going to change once fermentation has finished. But once it's carbonated that'll change the way you perceive the beer, and also a bit of time carbonating and...

    Youngs American IPA

Sounds good. No benefit in leaving it longer in my mind. A hoppy drop like this is best enjoyed fresh, before oxidation sets in and hops start to fade. When transferring, priming and bottling take care to avoid splashing and oxygen contact where you can. The quieter (or silent!) the process...

When you add the dry hops often CO2 is released from the beer, so this is the likely activity you're seeing.

    my brew set up

@DavidHatton Good setup I'm trying to hook a Grainfather Connect controller up to my all in one system (Brew Devil / Guten). Trying to work out what to do with the GF temp probe. Any chance you could post some more pics of your thermowell please? Also what is the upgrade kit you mention? Do...

Ace/Hopcat/Klarstein Sightglass, Sparge and Wirlpool Mod

Come to the dark side... Try full volume mashing and skip the sparge! ;)

    Ace Microbrewery/Klarstein/Hopcat Pump Mod

No problem. You don't need to raise it up much, 5mm perhaps. Some chunky stainless nuts or washes might work. I'll try and get a photo of my filter.

    Ace Microbrewery/Klarstein/Hopcat Pump Mod

The Brewster Beacon version has a false bottom style filter that simply rests at the bottom of the kettle. It's a bit like the false bottom plate that sits at the bottom of the malt-pipe. It's a much finer grade mesh/perforation though. Works quite well as it's a giant surface area to act as a...

Oneconcept / Hopfengott 30l Mash Kettle mash kettles

Unfortunately it had a small leak! So they collected it and refunded me. In all fairness to them it was sold at discount a factory second - but I think this was due to a couple of cosmetic marks on the machine. I think the leak was just bad luck and not a reflection of Expondo or the Royal...

    Removing labels

Bingo, tried filling some Brewdog bottles like this last night and the labels peeled off easily. Still left that hideous sticky glue residue however, so I'll try the WD40 trick on that next.

Greg Hughes - Home Brew Beer

I'm currently doing the American Wheat with kveik yeast. Another day to go I reckon. Tastes good so far. Wondering what Greg recipe will be next, possibly the Spring Beer. It's a great book.

    Calling all Klarstein Owners.

When the mash is done you can lift the grain basket up and prop it on supports to drain into the kettle. You can manual sparge with a jug, or if you've got a machine with a pump (for recirculation mash) you can do full-volume mash and skip the sparge.

I mean they're essentially very similar, but from what I can see, vs the Bulldog/OneConcept the Guten/Hopcat style offers: Slightly bigger volume (up to 40l theoretical) Built in pump rather than external 9 step controller 0.1 degree temp control

Hey Matt, have a look at the 'Bulldog Brewer' brewday videos on YouTube, it's the same machine different name. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=bulldog+brewday&page=&utm_source=opensearch To lauter you lift the grain basket up out of the wort and it props up on top of the machine...

    Coopers European Lager

Hello Euro fans, this is my first time doing the Coopers European Lager having heard a lot about it. Looking for a bit of advice on timings and temps please, hops, and diacetyl rests. I've got a temp chamber I can use to raise or lower the temp, but at the moment the FV is just in a cold spare...

Ace/Hopcat/Klarstein Sightglass, Sparge and Wirlpool Mod

Nice setup. I am waiting on the delivery of the same mash kettle. Can I ask how well the whirlpool works when brewing? Can you describe how you then drain the kettle into a fermenter? How do you deal with hop pellet debris in the kettle, is the whirlpool alone good enough? Can you drain the...

Oneconcept / Hopfengott 30l Mash Kettle mash kettles

Will do, I'll report back all about it. From what I've read the newer versions have 0.1°C temp control, and the pump recirculating while mashing helps keep an even temperature.
