    The Coronavirus thread.

With regards to your point on one to one care, and possibly one of the reasons the nightingale hospital isnt already filling up is that trusts have massively increased their ITU bed capacity, they have done this by converting existing areas into makeshift ITUs and pulling staff from all over the...

Scrubs are in short supply as well, I'm not the smallest guy in the world but last week the only option I had for a while were the 4xxxxl size, my shoulders fit through the neck hole without touching either side!

I'm not going to disagree with you on the fact we dont have enough police, though the tory government did state that cutting 20000 police officers would not result in crime increase (it did) and would suggest they were confident we had enough police to enforce events such as riots etc.

Because we dont have anyone in power with the actual stones to just enforce it

Yep and look at how all those countries are faring, thousands of deaths compared to the countries with fast lockdown. As I said we are an island so had a distinct advantage in our ability to reduce traffic into our country but the government chose to stay open and put lives in danger. Comments...

So you think they would rather deal with excessive deaths than a potential backlash from idiots not willing to sit at home to save their own lives?

Well take Ireland for example really good one as they are essentially on the same timeline as we are, they have a similar number of ITU beds per 100000 people as we do, they locked down two weeks before we did. Deaths per 100000 people is 6.5, ours is 14.8. London had already become overwhelmed...

Yet other countries managed it, the financial burden is always going to be an issue, but again we had time to prepare, we knew what the issues would be from the 2016 scenario, we saw what china was doing, what Korea was doing, what New Zealand was doing and what italy was doing. We saw the...

As has been mentioned there is a stockpile, it has diminished and not been replenished. We are being provided with out of date equipment and told it is fine to use, yet in any other circumstances using out of date equipment would be classed as a serious incident. Yes a lockdown should have...

Italy are at least two weeks ahead of us in this, they should have had their peak already, we haven't hit peak and already our numbers on comparitive days are higher. US is bigger than we are so will see much bigger numbers in the next few weeks

They did know it was coming, they knew since the beginning of January and didnt take it seriously. Then they went with the ludicrous herd immunity idea, which the imperial college reports had we all followed this show it would have resulted in deaths of around 90 million worldwide. It's not...

Very true, the fun part of experimenting is coming up with something that tastes good, you just gotta put with the times when you just produce expensive drain cleaner as well!

I do BIAB also, I did liquor back to get the OG if I recall, think I just went with his OG without thinking about the reduced grain bill, rookie error!!

    Watering down beer

Do you not think the dry hop will affect it being stuck in there for so long? Or is there only so much flavour you can pull from the hops? Didnt add any yeast but will remember that for next time I mess up ( and I will have another time) cheers! Do you think the flavour will mellow over time or...

    Watering down beer

I adapted a cali common recipe from James Morton and reduced the grain bill by 0.5 kilos, his expected OG was 1.056-58, I am gonna make an assumption that my efficiency is not likely to be as good as his though, did have less wort at the end so actually diluting it from 16 up to 20 litres is...

    Watering down beer

The OG was 1.058 and the FG was 1.008 did have the formula but used an abv calculator on my brew diary. Temp was 20 degrees when measured for both with standard hydro meter. I wouldnt say there were off flavours as such, just that strong special brew type taste which I thought could just be from...

    Watering down beer

Thanks for the reply, could possibly do with losing a little bitterness to be fair, but body and flavour is what I was worrying about. In honesty I dont really know too much about calculating efficiency and understand too much on attenuation (possibly a reason for getting a higher abv than I...

    Watering down beer

I brewed myself a California common, the dry hop was supposed to be 7 days but for a number of reasons ended up being about 35 days. I was hoping this would end up around 5% tops but ideally 4-4.5% but has come out around 6.5% and tastes like a strong lager. My question is can I water this down...

    Disheartening return to homebrew

The homebrew company do a BIAB starter kit for £82. Comes with a peco boiler, wort chiller, bag and an all grain kit of your choice. I went for this and it is a completely different taste to the kits, my first all grain pale ale even converted a die hard lager drinker to try new beers!

    James Morton - Brew

Have bottled up some totally tropical, which would be my first successful all grain. I tweaked the recipe a little as I wanted to drop the ABV a bit, used 4kg instead of 4.5 malt and used 100g light malt extract instead of the sugar. I also dry hopped for 7 days instead of 3 as I tried it at 3...
