    Extract or straight to AG?

Hello all, I’m about to start my 4th home brew kit which is Young’s IPA. I am pleased with the results of my limited brewing experience so far, so I am planning to venture into extract or AG brewing. My questions are; Should I jump straight into AG and not bother with attempting extract? I...

    Woodfordes Wherry kit

I started off my Woodfordes Wherry today. Have done it by the book with an initial SG of 1.043. I’ve put the FV in the brew fridge at 20 degrees C and plan to leave it a couple of weeks before bottling despite the kit saying it will take much less time.

    Woodfordes Wherry kit

Thanks terrym, good points. It makes sense to do it by the book having never tasted the beer before. Like the idea of splitting into two smaller brews.

    Woodfordes Wherry kit

Hi all, My very first home brew is bottled and conditioning and will hopefully be ready for Christmas. It’s a Beerworks Presidents American Sierra IPA extract kit. I have a second Beerworks Spire IPA in the FV now with a few days to go before bottling. I’ve got fingers crossed for both these...

    Brew fridge question...

Thanks for your responses guys. I fully intend to buy a functioning fridge, the only reason I’m using the knackered freezer is because my mum was throwing it out so I thought I’d get me a heating medium and rely on our balmy winter weather to sort the cooling aspect. I am very new to home...

    Brew fridge question...

Hi guys, I am in the process of making a fermentation fridge. I have acquired an under counter freezer and have got an Inkbird and a tube heater. The brew fridge will be situated in an unheated outbuilding, so my question is: The freezer its self doesn’t work, so over the colder months at least...

    Popping my home brewing cork!!

So, I checked SG again today - 48 hours since first check and it was the same at 1.013. Taking on board what’s been said about this reading being on the high side, I checked a reading in tap water and it was 1.005, so it looks like the calibration might be slightly out on my hydrometer and I...

    Popping my home brewing cork!!

Ok I’ll leave it a little longer before I bottle. As regards filtering the beer before bottling, the kit came with a small muslin type bag to go over the end of the siphon. I had planned to siphon into bottling bucket using this as a filter, then bottle straight from the bucket.

    Popping my home brewing cork!!

Ok so my APA has been in the FV for 11 days, hops added at day 5, seems to have stopped bubbling so checked the SG - around 1.013 vs 1.050 at the start. I’m going to check again tomorrow and hopefully it will be ok to bottle. Drank the sample and it was surprisingly nice, if a little lacking in...

    Popping my home brewing cork!!

Cheers for that. The instructions say to bottle on day 10 but I was intending to leave for 2 weeks minimum after reading many posts here. I do have a hydrometer and the SG of my brew was 1.050.

    Popping my home brewing cork!!

Thanks for the replies. I’m on day 5 and have just added the hops, 50g Citra. The temperature where I’m brewing is about 17 to 18C, it’s still bubbling away in the FV. I’ve just ordered another FV and tapped bottle filler and my intention is to siphon into this ready for bottling when the time...

    Popping my home brewing cork!!

Hi all, I'm new to the forum and new to home brewing, so I hope to get some good advice from all you learned brewers out there. I have just kicked off with my first brew, the Beerworks Presidents Sierra APA LME kit, which has been in the FV since Friday morning and is bubbling away nicely (I'm...
