    Belgian beer

Back on topic, don't forget witbier such as Hoegaarden (sold in the UK as a premium lager!), although I prefer Blanche de Namur. At the other end of scale is Flemish red if you like sour beer, although I doubt this is available in the UK. Belgian stouts and IPA are only marginally different...

    What are you drinking tonight.

First beer of the night is Curtius which is the nicest witbier I have ever tased. 7%, very smooth and aromatic, but not too hoppy. Surprisingly good.

    What are you drinking tonight.

Second beer of the evening is Brouwerij De Ranke's Guldenberg. http://www.deranke.be/en/bier/guldenberg At the first taste it was wonderful. Halfway down the glass I'm not so sure. I think perhaps either 8% is too strong for me or the Hallertauer Mittelfrüh hops are wrong for the beer

    Restarter from Belgium

I'm on the run up to retirement, so I'm dusting off my old hobbies. I haven't brewed since 1981, but I've been sampling the commercial beers to gain experience in tasting and style comparison. I've read that you need a good hobby in retirement to keep the brain active, so drinking beer is my...

Brugse Zot Blond https://www.brugsezot.be/en/het-bier/blond Disappointing. I was expecting something more, but it was just a pleasant blonde - no better than a Leffe.

Arek, I cannot download the spreadsheet, probably because I am not registered. However it should be fairly simple to make my own - what a good idea.

    Educate me about Saison

Like all Belgian beers, never drink it by the pint. A 33cl glass brings out the aroma and shows the colour. And always pour in the yeast.

    The Beer World Cup Final!!!!

If the bottle truly contained trub, you should contact the brewery with full details as that is unforgivable. A normal sediment is compulsory and should be poured into the glass for both of these Belgian beers. The quantity and flavour of the sediment should be taken into account when...

    What time is kick off?

Well, I started with G&T at 1830, then wine over the meal (a surprisingly nice Corbières for €4) and now port (my last bottle of Taylor's 1974) so it'll be a while before my first beer.

    The Beer World Cup Final!!!!

I'd class it more like Luxembourg v Togo. I would class these as near the bottom in quality for Belgian beers. My current favourite is 'Charbon' by De Dochter van de Korenaar . As they say in Belgium 'taste with wisdom'.

    Drones close airport.

What radar? Even the large military ones that fire missiles are hard to detect. Small drones cannot be distinguished from clutter. The usual method of detecting radio emissions is not effective if the flightpath is pre-programmed.

First beer of the night De Ranke XX Bitter http://www.deranke.be/en/bier/xx-bitter "XX-bitter is our most bitter, high-fermenting beer. Despite its low alcohol content, it produces a very rich, long lasting, full flavour. Straw Blonde 6% vol. alc. Brewers Gold & Hallertau Mittelfrüh 10 EBC 60...

    What are you drinking tonight.

After the quaffing of two good beers, I always resort to basic beers - in this case Leffe bruin 6.5%. Nutty and not as clean as the other two. https://leffe.com/en/leffe-brown In a few words: SHARP AND FULL-BODIED 6.5% Leffe Brown is an authentic abbey beer. Both its deep, dark brown colour...

    What are you drinking tonight.

Hmmm. Dark Gold bière brune is black. Very smooth and knocks spots off the Diôle. I would still prefer that it not be as strong, however.

    What are you drinking tonight.

    Robobrew and clones

Could someone please explain to me (or give me the thread link) the story behind the Robobrew and its clones. It seems to me that many suppliers provide boilers (50 and 30 litres) that look identical. Are they all made in the same Chinese factory to the same specification or is there a...

    Belgium

Bedankt, maar ik spreek weinig Vlaams. Mostly I drink Leffe, Grimbergen and Maredsous - brune in winter, blonde and amber in summer with Blanche de Namur and Hoegaarden (my local brew excluding Jandrain microbrewery) in full summer. I have subscribed to Belgibeer but I find that the beers are...

    Belgium

I'm Tom. My first brew was 47 years ago, which sounds impressive. However, my last was 41 years ago. For the last 22 years I have been living in the land of Blanche, Dubbel and Abbey. With retirement coming up I am getting ready to brew again, with the intent of brewing lighter beers. I'm...
