Flaked Wheat Substitute for a Witbier

Am making a witbier this weekend - Ho's Garters, Hoegaarden clone. The recipe calls for 500g of Flaked Wheat, but I haven't got any, so can I use something to replace it? The recipe also uses 500g of Torriefied Wheat, which i have a load of, can I double up on the Torriefied Wheat to replace...

    Hibiscus Wherry

Following the great success I had with the Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild plus Hibiscus, I've decided to add 50g of boiled Hibiscus flower "juice" to the wort from a Wherry kit (due to lack of time). The Safale-04 is making short work of it at the moment. Will report back the results.

    Can I ?

Daft question, i used Danstar Nottingham for my last brew, I didn't top crop as i was worried about infection. I did however keep the remnants of yeast for washing etc. Will the yeast be re-usable if I just took the slurry if it is a top cropper?

    Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby modification

Well, it's the first brew in the new Man Cave Brewery, and I decided to do a recipe from the BYOBRA book and chose the Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild. Previously I posted that I'd had a few pints of Huna Red from Sunny Republic at the Sheffield Tap, one of the unusual additions being Hibiscus...

    ManCave Brewery

Having recently moved house, the stocks of the elixir of life have been exhausted  So, three weeks and a day since we moved in, something needed to be done as Mrs B is out of Penis Grigio!!! .... ManCave renovation. Wife, two kids, dog and bikes - Mr Trebus would be proud...

Compact garage brewery using 2 racking units

It's been a while, and have been getting by on St Peter's IPA and Ruby Red plus some wine I put away for a few months - all due to moving house. Existing stocks exhausted now, St P. RRA nearly finished in primary. My pocket is weeping at the price of beer in the shop! Now I've got a double...

    Erdinger yeast reclaim??

Just wondering whether or not I could reclaim any yeast from this bottle, it says "bottle fermentation" on the back, but not sure if the brew is pasteurised or not? I've not had this beer before, and bought it at ASDA as it was 2 for £3 (purely as I thought I will try it having seen the thread...

First thoughts about Witbier.. some questions..

I've done a few AG's now and getting itchy feet for something other than Ale, not a masive fan of lager, but I do like witbier, - my experience of supping it is limited to Hoegaarden, BlueMoon and something I forget in Brittainy last year. I have read with interest an number of threads, mainly...

How to it a Thermometer to your boiler, HLT etc

I have brewed with my AG set up for about 12months now, and up until now, I've measured the temperature with a digital meat fork (this is a bit tricky due to the fact that I have to hang my siliconed oven gloved hand over the boiling wort, and it's not very safe, plus last time I dropped it in...

How to make a Solar Pump in a box

I saw the thread for the Solar Pump and thought, I need one of those, to save me having to lift 25 litres of wort from the floor to the boiler on top of a kitchen unit - and the shed ceiling is not that high, so it's a struggle to tip the wort into the boiler.. So I decided to get a solar pump...

Bolier Thermometer - would this be ok?

Doing a bit of modifications to my boiler, I was wanting to add a temperature sensor without having to put my digital meat fork into the brew each time - so I can see at a glance the temperature (plus last time I dropped it in by accident, and now it's a bit hit and miss if it works). I found...

    Huna Red – Hibiscus Ale

I had a few jars with some of my colleagues after work yesterday, and being local to the Sheffield Tap, we all went there > a cunning plan of mine! I sampled the above ale - Huna Red – Hibiscus Ale brewed by http://www.sunnyrepublic.com in Dorset. Wow, we supped the last five or six...

    Corny poppets?

I've bought myself a second corny from Leyland Homebrew - I happened to be passing through work. When I've sterilised and pressurised it, I was somewhat dismayed to note that the OUT post has a leak when you disconnect the QD - I also notice that I have to press down a lot harder on the OUT...

Have I misunderstood the principle of corny's?

Ok, I've invested in a corny, regulator, co2, beer line, tap etc. I kegged 19L of St Peter's on Saturday afternoon - after sterilising said Corny with videne as per the dilution advised on here (1.25 per L). I gassed up the corny to about 12 psi, purged it, and left it in the fridge which is...

    Quick corny question..

Have got all the gear now, and some videne is due tomorrow from Asda Pharmacy.. When I carbonate the corny with CO2 do i leave the CO2 cylinder attached to the corny with valve open? I'd assumed that I put CO2 in to the required psi, and purge and then disconnect and leave it to condition for...

Some advice on a Corny please

Ok, I have been brewing for a few years and have taken the plunge from kits, to AG a while ago. I got fed up with having a load of glass bottles about the place and the labour that is bottling. So having had my birthday, I decided to invest in a Corny, a regulator (single stage twin gauge), a...

Is Acrylic tube as good as Polycarbonate tube - sight glass

I'm following a couple of the how to guides to add a sight glass to my Boiler (70L pot from the Malt Miller). I've found a supplier of Acrylic tube of the right size (15x11mm - wall thickness is 2mm) and it's virtually half the price of the Polycarbonate stuff. I also wondered if 3/8" clear...
