    Malt Miller now using DHL?

DHL let me down last year with your deliveries on the 40oC days, said they would deliver on a day, did not, and my yeast went back to the warehouse... this year work sent me a laptop for delivery by DHL who claimed no one was in on two consecutive days when I was here there was no knock and no...

    Malt Miller now using DHL?

As DPD is no longer free for orders over £100 I have reduced the amount I buy no longer seeing it as a good deal to go over.

    Hosepipe ban.

Should have said that's an immersion chiller to 40oC in 30litres. Does not seem to matter time of year, live on south coast.

    Hosepipe ban.

First 10L of water I keep for cleaning Second 10L I use for rinsing The next 10L is left to cool in the garden, and used around the garden. 30litres used per 23litre wort to cool to 40oC. I then wait to pitch.

    Malt Miller now using DHL?

Today I received notice at 7:30 from DHL they were going to deliver between 14:19 and 15:19. 15:30 came and I checked the link they sent me to track the parcel, it remained stubbornly at delivery 22/68 for the next 2 hours, I did see it increase around 18:00... now the app tells me they are...

    A word on protofloc…

I tend to use a bit less than half a tablet, 1g for a 23l batch. When taking a sample for og in a trial jar if it settles to light fluffy clouds then that's the correct amount I believe.

    Airlock required?

Can only think there is some way the CO2 produced as part of the fermentation is escaping the bin already with the coopers kit. An airlock would allow the gas to escape easier.

    Stupid Question!

I tend to, whilst cleaning a keg, add a small amount of pressure and let some cleaning fluid through the gun so the dip tube also has cleaning fluid in it. Later I'll do the same with sanitiser.

Sparging in an all in one system

I've also got a Brewzilla. I thought the slow sparge was more to stop the grain bed compressing under the weight of water added on top, I tend to sparge 2 litres at a time let that visibly clear and repeat.

    Advice

When I used to brew with kits I enjoyed the results with the festival home brew kits, they included everything needed for a brew.

    Sloe Berries

I've just made up my damson gin for this year. I only have one tree I know about locally, I normally need to pick most of the low hanging fruit for 5lbs, this year I was able to leave plenty on the tree. It is definitely bumper crop damson, slow, and probably plum this year. I normally pick...

Belgian Tripel - Is starter needed with Wyeast 1388 OG 1.081?

Hi, First time brewing a strong beer. I'm normally brewing for 4-5.5% Abv and find that I do not need to create a starter with Wyeast smack packs. My question is more about this strain of yeast (Wyeast 1388), it's designed to cope with high OG but I'm concerned that I might under pitch...

    Any ideas?

Other thing to consider is when stiring the mash in the malt pipe don't go all the way to the bottom of the grain scraping the mesh. I have a robobrew and have been getting better results this way.
