Hi There I've just may have messed up my lager. During the boil phase I forgot the Irish moss. So what is now best, cold crash the lager after fermentation and put the Gelatine in the primary, or add the Gelatine to the keg? Please advise

Help needed to handle Dorsets hard water for Lager

Hi There I did think about buying spring water however. Then you don't have full knowledge of what salts to add as this throws out calculation made on my water report. I'm looking for a mash start of 5.5ph for lager to end of mash about 5.2 or 5.3ph. Unfortunately I start with 7.4ph so I have to...

    Worried about space when Lagering

That's very intresting, I must admit I fermented at 12c and lager at 2c for clarity with liquid yeast or mangrove Jack's. I do however do the DMs rest at 19c for a week at least to clean up. Normally I start the process at 50% completed fermentation. I brew mostly all grain but love the...

    Grainfather reduced pipe work

Hi There, Has anyone used the grainfather reduced pipe work? Can it only achieve 10ltrs of wert? I’m worried about losses that I may end up with only 8ltrs. I have 12ltr corny kegs. So should I use standard pipe work and do 13 to 15ltrs and factor In losses? Please help M

    Worried about space when Lagering

Thanks for your thoughts, I might stick to using corny kegs to lager and put a few pounds of CO2 on top and vent any O2 left inside. If I do lager again in the glass carboy, I’m setting up a CO2 nozzle and fill the void at the top before closing the valve and putting in the freezer to lager...

    Worried about space when Lagering

Hi Guys Thanks for your reply, I should have mentioned I had racked the lager into a second carboy after the primary had finished for a two week fermentation. I previously just put the lager in a steel keg after the primary fermentation and added gelatin with some c02. I thought I would do the...

    Worried about space when Lagering

Well guys Lagering my All grain Helle Export Lager in the deep freeze with temperature control. The worry I have is the head space and oxygen coming in contact with the lager for a long period during the lagering phase. The lager had a warm rest phase for DMS. Should I worry?? M ps. The tube...
