    What are you drinking 2024.

Currently involved in trying to brew this stuff, which is a bit daft because I don't know what it's supposed to taste like. It seems getting hold of the right yeast is the problem. Got two 6-litre batches in fermenters at the moment and I've very high hopes for the first one. Oh, Why? Sussex...

    Looks delicious.

    Brown ale

Welcome to the forum, by the way. Whereabouts in Wales?

    Brown ale

Like Marshbrewer said, any yeast for making ordinary beer. Lager yeast would do at a push, but would be second choice. Avoid yeasts for making wheat beer, saisons and Belgian yeasts. Depends on the shop. They used to do Gervin in Wilco. If you go to a homebrew shop they'll know what to give you...

    Brown ale

It's not worth messing about. Sprinkle another sachet of yeast over the surface and let it do its stuff. Have you got any yeast? Is there a homebrew shop near you? I'd try to get it in there tomorrow if nothing happens overnight. But if you've got a spare, bung it in now.

    Newbie to the group

Hi @Jahfish and welcome. Has your new kit improved the quality of your beer or the ease of producing it?

I'm with you there, Chippy. Culture of fear? The thought of Elvis Juice terrifies me.

    Abrosexual

I thought an abrosexual was a tree-hugger. What's a tree-hugger, then ? As for LGB , what has mixed-filling sandwiches got to do with anything? Why do you find holes in telegraph poles and what are they for?

They certainly did. SPBW predated CAMRA and are still going strong. https://www.spbw.beer

You say that, but the beads on my abacus were too hot to touch, as I recall. 😂

The same as beer from a "corny" or a party keg, then?

    allinson yeast

Might have been, I have this abiding memory of a clear glass bottle, though.

    allinson yeast

Has anyone actually tried it? It's a thing I've been meaning to do for ages so watch this space. Back in the dark ages, I used to buy an Australian beer from Safeway. It came in oversize, clear bottles and it was impossible to pour a clear pint. I got it in my head that it was Little Creatures...

Cold Crashing in SS bucket buddy

If your garage is cold, do you need to put the fermenter in the fridge? To prevent suckback, fit a dry airlock with a freezer bag or balloon held in place over the top with an elastic band. The last bits of fermentation will inflate the bag and the CO2 will be sucked back when you chill the...

First ever mash and boil…Belgian Dubbel

Well done @Beer Elzibub . But, just that you don't get confused when you come to your first all-grain, your Belgian brew wasn't a mash, not even a partial mash since there's no starch conversion involved with the two caramel/crystal malts you chose. It's just a steep and the steep temperature is...

What "genius" thought this was a good idea?

Not to put too fine a point on it: Complete nonsense! Isn't there a contradiction here?

What do brewers mean by attenuation and how does alcohol tolerance come into play?

Honey may be fermented to near completion depending on the yeast used. many varieties used for beer will routinely hydrolise and ferment maltotriose, for example, while some wine yeasts my struggle with disaccharides. Since we routinely use "brewer's yeast" it may well seem that compete...
