Equipment For Sale Brewing and winemaking gear for sale

I wouldn’t dismiss the ideas of posting completely, but given the size of many of these things, it would be a challenge to box them up. happy to split

Equipment For Sale Brewing and winemaking gear for sale

Anyone in the South Wales/West area looking to get into/expand their brewing/wine making hobby, I have decided to call a halt to my fermenting activities, as I keep drinking it all!! I have… 1x king keg top tap 2 x 25 litre fermenting buckets with snap on lids 1 x 25 litre plastic fermenter 1 x...

    Healthy drinking

This site is quite useful/salutary! https://alcoholchange.org.uk/alcohol-facts/interactive-tools/unit-calculator it came as a shock that the guidance is 14 units per WEEK, not per DAY😁 seriously, though, 14 units isn’t much at all. Even with four dry days per week, it’s trivial to exceed...

    Why are hydrometer so small?

I think I used to have one of these many years ago... https://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=5163.0 that's the sort of thing I have been looking for, but no-one seems to make these any more. I have seen a few references to multi-hydrometer sets, each with a limited range, but...

    Why are hydrometer so small?

The title says it all, really. is there some physical restriction that determines maximum hydrometer size? Surely it’s just a weight calibrated to float at known level. For those of us with less than bionic eyesight, it would be so much easier to read the SG off a nice, bright, large...

    Kombucha has gone VERY cloudy

After several successful batches, my last kombucha batch was very, very cloudy. Despite advice out on the web, it didn’t clear much during second fermentation. the current batch is also very cloudy anyone else experienced this Or have any ideas/suggestions?

    Pitching yeast

It’s probably down to choice, rather than a right/wrong decision. I always like to make a starter bottle up, so when I pitch it, there’s loads of vigorous yeast ready to go, which (just) may help reduce the risk of spoilage as there’s less time for bugs to get going before the yeast takes over...

    Youngs Super Major Airlock.

I’ve got one of these for my big FV as well. It is very quiet compared to a standard bubbler when a 5gall brew is underway. In fact, it’s so quiet that there’s a drawback! It’s SO quiet I can‘t just pop my head around the door so check if a fermentation has almost finished. I have to go and...

    Camden tabs and hedgerow wines

Quick question.... I’m about to start off a blackberry wine next week having a amassed quite a few in the freezer now (And we have an Asda delivery next week so need some freezer space!) I’m not sure how many I have yet, but it’s going to make more than one gallon. So, when you add Camden...

    Bottle Tops

Are you sanitising those caps? That’s what it looks like. I’ve never bothered, but you have me thinking now!

Pressure Barrels - More than you wanted to know!

So, I pumped it up to just under 12psi, and I could clearly hear the safety relief valve hissing, so that showed it was working. trouble was the pressure kept on dropping over the next few days until it was just a bit higher than the 5.5 it had sat at in the previous post. So I resat the...

Just got some Boots winemaking gear off gumtree

...I thought I noticed a slight spacetime continuum warping around by the greenhouse earlier. That must have been what caused it 😀

Just got some Boots winemaking gear off gumtree

I have just bought a load of winemaking kit stuff via gumtree, and it really brought back some memories! It all Boots branded stuff, some of it still in original boxes. notice the price stickers? Does anyone have any tips about getting glass fermentation locks out of bungs? I can...

    Pre Sanitising kegs/bottles

I swill the bottles a few times, put a cm or two of metabisulphate solution in them, the seal with a plastic stopper. I give it a shake and leave it until needed. when I’m bottling, I just empty the metabisulphate out, swill it twice and let it drain. same with my KK and FVs - I keep some...

    Bottling question

Wine bottles are not designed to contain any pressure (except fizzy wines, which dont’t use screw tops). when you bottle beer, you want a secondary ferment to take place to give it a bit of fizz, and this will create pressure in the bottle. so, if you were to use such bottles, the likelihood is...

Pressure Barrels - More than you wanted to know!

Great tip..I hadn’t thought of that. having said that, it’s a great bit of cardiovascular exercise pumping the damn thing up🥵 took it to 5.5psi yesterday evening, and it’s still there now. So I’m pretty chuffed about that. I may just have a fully working KK 😀

Blackberry Wine, what's your best recipe.

Some good tips here. I‘ve got a few kilos in the freezer now, as I have been picking a bag full in the mornings when walking the dogs. There’s so many around this year...but I’m not seeing many elderberries. So, once my FV is free (5 gall Beaverdale kit on the go at the mo’), I’m going to try...

Pressure Barrels - More than you wanted to know!

Firstly, I think I’m going to cut and paste all of this “KK Maintenance manual” into a word document, print it out and stick it in my brewing folder)! it‘s such a useful reference. Having read thru a couple of times, I cleaned out my KK top tap barrel yesterday, and dug out a couple of (clean)...
