    GetErBrewed Pimped up APA kit

I have the above on order, however I was thinking of adding some Munich (500g ish) to the 5.6 kg grain bill of Marris and Crystal, to give it a bit more of a biscuity finish. Any thoughts on if this might work? Cheers!

New brewer - thinking of trying BIAB on my second batch

+1 for the link for the basic AG BIAB recipe. I have been using this as the base for my AG brews since April, and have had excellent results. It's a great starting point.

Filtering hoppy beers into bottling bucket

Thanks for this suggestion. That will work superbly I reckon!

    Autumnal beer

Looking for a decent recipe for an easy drinking 'autumnal' beer. Something along the lines of an English bitter. Any suggestions? I took a look at the Harvest Ale from the Bible. Has anyone tried this?

Filtering hoppy beers into bottling bucket

Don't have a fermentation fridge set up yet, so cold crashing a no no for now. I think I will try using the nylon hop bags next, and see how much this changes things. Hopefully, whilst this session was a pain, the beer will still taste as good as ever!

Filtering hoppy beers into bottling bucket

Yeah, the racking cane was in the middle of the beer, and wasn't touching the trub (as far as I know). I suppose there is a chance that it did touch the trub without me noticing, hence the crud being pumped up the cane initially. However, it's the amount of beer that I lost that is concerning...

Filtering hoppy beers into bottling bucket

So I have just had the most frustrating bottling session of my short brewing life so far! I brewed a hoppy ale, with a double dry hop total of 70g pellets (in a 12L FV yield). I went to bottle it today after two weeks in the FV, and it went from bad to worse. Firstly my racking wand failed...

    Thoughts on this recipe please...

I agree re the ABV. This one should come out around 4.3%. I think I may try the suggestion of removing some of the boil hops, and loading the dry hop more. Maybe even try a double dry hop.

Interesting. What kind of results have you experienced with loading all the hops cold side? Not averse to this at all, but would like to know what I could expect?

    Thoughts on this recipe please...

I put the recipe together myself, after previous recipes which were quite successful, with lesser hoppage. But despite these being perfectly good first efforts, I was hoping for more in the way of fruitiness and body. The maltodextrin I have read, aids head retention and gives the beer more body...

    Thoughts on this recipe please...

Thanks for this. I did initially have some magnum in the recipe at 60 mins for the bittering, but removed this as I wanted the IBU a little lower. I thought that adding hops at 30 mins would add to the flavour though, hence using a little citra here?

    Thoughts on this recipe please...

I am planning this recipe for my next brew. I'm looking for a fruity, tropical easy drinking ale for summer. However, I'm starting to have second thoughts given the amount of hoppage and that it might be overkill, and I could get similar results by removing one of the hops altogether? I also...

    Hello from Ayrshire

+1 for YouTube and Greg Hughes' book, aka 'The Bible'. I basically went straight into AG brewing after watching hours of YT vids from the likes of Hapless Ginger, NewToHomeBrewTom, Homebrew Chris etc. They might assume a little knowledge in the first instance, but after watching a few of their...

    Brewhawk - 'brewery in a box' kit - £50 Inc 18litre pan

I have this kit, and I'm brewing 11L batches of all grain with no problems. I got this kit for £50 just before xmas, and it's a steal at this price.

    Brewers Friend - adding hopstands

Hi. I'm a little confused as to how to add a hopstand to BF. If I choose hopstand currently, at 80 C it still seems to add large amounts of IBU's to the outcome? I was under the impression that adding at 80 and below will not extract any bitterness? If I change this to 'aroma' though, the...

Make an offer - Dark Farm Mini Keg Systems

I wouldn't have thought you'd need to prime as you will be carbing the beer with CO2.

    What are you drinking tonight.

I thought the Citra was really disappointing. It tasted like a lightly hopped Fosters. Really not great. Someone did mention elsewhere that it is a different beer when taken from the cask, so maybe there is hope yet! The SNPA was awesome though! Very rounded, mature beer with subtle...

    What did you brew today?

Brewed AG no3. Pale Ale, with Citra, Mosaic and Cascade. All loaded towards the back end of the boil, with a big drop in a hop stand at 80 degrees C for 15 mins. Will also dry hop with the remaining Cascade and possibly some more Citra. Not sure yet. First time I have tried a hop stand, and...
