    So, how good is TC?

The key to a decent TC is time and patience. People are right as in it is very easy to make... I have just put a batch on this morning which I am hoping will be done in time for Christmas. So really it depends what type of cider you are looking for. The best TC's for me have been brewed slowly...

Making a cider kit to produce a dry cider

No problem. If you are going to use wet yeast then watch the videos I got the idea from. The first video shows you how to cultivate the yeast so you have enough for multiple batches(massive money saver) and the second video shows you how to grow the yeast up for 2 days before pitching it into...

Making a cider kit to produce a dry cider

Hi Carl. The best thing to do, is do what I did with xylitol which was to syphon 500ml after the cider had fermented into a sterilised jug and slowly add to taste(tasting as you go). So I started off with 1/2 teaspoon and then 3/4 and I finally settled on 1 level teaspoon(using measuring spoons)...

Making a cider kit to produce a dry cider

If you like dry ciders then personally I would go for a proper cider yeast but be careful. I tried a cider yeast on a batch and it didn't come out very nice at all... in fact it was done fermenting within just 4 days which if i'm honest I think affected the flavour and the colour... it...

    Priming with apple juice

Oh yes 4g a litre would be nowhere near enough for lets say a cider you would get on tap at the local pub. I'd say that's what you are aiming for and 5.5g of sugar should do that just fine... its about experimenting really so a rule of thumb should be to start small with a demijohn and see how...

    Priming with apple juice

When you say "a bit more priming" do you longer?? or more sugar? Beer is different as beer will not completly ferment out or at least it won't be allowed to... this basically means that there will be some sugar left over from fermenting to create fizz over time whilst stored.... on the other...

    Priming with apple juice

I tend to find that 5.5g of sugar is to my taste of fizzy when it comes to cider. I find anything less a bit disappointing but anyway... you can try adding less per 500ml if you wish If using apple juice I do the following: Find out how much sugar is in a litre of you chosen apple juice. In...

Trial Turbo Cider Recipes - WLP775

UPDATE: Recipe 1: The first recipe has now been bottled and is currently conditioning before being put into the fridge. I added 1 level teaspoon(measurement) of Xylitol into each of the 500ml bottles(this was down to taste) as well as 1 heaped teaspoon of normal table sugar for priming. I have...

Trial Turbo Cider Recipes - WLP775

Ok I have tasted the two batches today and the one with the raisins was definitely more tart in flavour which was a little off-putting. The other batch (recipe 2) had nice apple notes but was a little tart. I intend to now backsweeten the two batches. I have chosen Xylitol for the backsweeten...

Trial Turbo Cider Recipes - WLP775

No problem. You pretty much just need to stay away from anything that has other stuff in it other than 100% juice from concentrate and you will be fine.

Trial Turbo Cider Recipes - WLP775

The cheap one. It's a white carton with apples on it: https://d3l6n8hsebkot8.cloudfront.net/images/products/11/LN_021103_BP_11.jpg Don't ever go for the stuff in the fridge... full of water Also if it is your first time, avoid making the same mistake I did. I put half a bag of sugar into a...

Trial Turbo Cider Recipes - WLP775

Greetings all, I currently have two trial recipes on the go to test out the WLP775. I cannot take credit for these recipes and they are just what I have come across on this forum and others. Here are the following recipes: Recipe 1: 4.5 ltr of Apple Juice. (Waitrose brand, explanation below)...

Blueberry Turbo Cider - Need help with flavour

Hi all, I have just created a small batch of blueberry cider. Blueberry isn't really known for it flavour profile I know but I just thought i'd give it a go. I have just taken a hydrometer reading which is now 1000 and i'm ready to syphon into a secondary vessel. When I tried it it tasted ok...

Turbocider - Yeast stuck at the top of DemiJohn

Thanks Graz. I've given both of them a slight shake to release the froth and all seems fine. Can I ask when do you know for sure that fermentation has stopped? at 1000 on the hydrometer I take it?

Turbocider - Yeast stuck at the top of DemiJohn

Hi all, I thought i'd come here after trying to find an answer but couldn't. I have two fruit flavoured TC's on the go. After the initial froth up from the yeast, the yeast froth appears to be stuck at the top of the demijohn. Should I give it a quick shake to release this as fermentation...

Thinking of giving a cider kit a go

I really don't think you can go wrong with the Turbo Cider recipe that is pinned in the cider recipes sub-forum. The only difference for me was to use a cider yeast with sweetener: https://brewmart.co.uk/yeasts-for-home-brewing/1061-cider-yeast-sweet-for-home-brewing-5031174300028.html I...

    Stirring after starting fermentation

Oh right... possibly needed to boil the cherry juice first for 10 mins? On a side note I really find the sweetened yeast agreeable and is delicate in it's sweetness... not over not under. Something else I forgot to mention... i used a fermentation bucket with a lid that had a hole and a rubber...

    Stirring after starting fermentation

Will do. Aah right see what you mean.... yeah I would imagine that would affect the taste somewhat.... Surely it was just sweet though?? was it sour? dry? watery? I would hate to make the same mistakes

    Stirring after starting fermentation

I feel like i'm fooling you Daniel as this is my very first batch and first time brewing. I know not to pick the chilled fruit juice just after doing a bit of research. To try and answer your questions though: If you do not use yeast with sweetener, how does it come out/taste? No idea. I have...

    Stirring after starting fermentation
