    Another Liquid Discussion

Hi all, I'm toying with the idea of using a few liquid yeasts in the coming months. I would just like a couple of bits of advice please. The first and most obvious (and probably most contentious) Wyeast or White Labs? It's probably a question of preference rather than anything else but I...

Huging my Pillow (well that got your attention)

Well a couple of weeks or so ago I won one of the "Get Er Brewed" Single hop variety kits and chose and Amarillo. I have reviewed this on their site but thought I would spread the news a bit. The quality of the ingredients in the kit was second to none. There was a huge malty aroma from...

    Different Malts

Hi all, Some of you will remember I won a mash kit from Get er Brewed the other day, well I started it yesterday, review to come when it is ready. But the base malt in the kit filled the house with the most wonderful malty aroma, much more so the my usual Maris Otter. I asked them what it...

    Something in the hops?

Okay so why do I always feel so shattered at the end of a brew morning. I was up at half six (pretty normal) mash in for 7:10 finished the boil at about 11:30. Then I start yawning and feeling totally shattered. Happens every time.

    Overnight Mashing

Hi all I remember someone a while back I think it was MyQul discussing overnight mashing. I wondered how well this technique works and whether there are any real pitfalls to the method. Can the mash get too cold would be my main thought. Cheers A

    Hop Pellets

Hi all, I have never used hop pellets except in a teabag or muslin bag for dry hopping but there seems to be a move over to pellets in more varieties from some of the Homebrew suppliers. I normally boil leaf hops in a muslin bag and let the chips fall where they may it does work ok for me...

    Hello from a lapsed poster

Hi all Some will know me and some won't but hello (again to those that do and nice to meet you to those that don't) I'm Andrew And I am a Home brewer. I've quite a lot of experience but most of it based on the old Graham Wheeler book which has never let me down. I brew pretty much on a...

    I wonder if

Hi all, I hope I am not standing on toes here, nor going against forum rules (though I can't find anything that would suggest it) With an increasing number of AG Brewers in the West Yorkshire, East Yorkshire and North Lincs area I wonder if we could come together to look at whether we could...

    Boil Time

Hi all So as I have mentioned a few times I use the 1st edition Wheeler "Brew Your Own Real Ale At Home" for much of my brewing and when I design a brew I go from profiles learned from that book. I am not really into milds I prefer bitters, old ales and stouts (and incidentally am getting...

Hi all. I'm looking towards my next mash up and looking at the ingredients I have in, My thoughts are towards Brown Ale/Mild, destined for the bottle not the keg How does this sound 4.5 kg Pale Malt 500g Crystal Malt 100g Roast Barley 250g Flaked Maize Mash for 90 mins Boil 120...

    IIItt's Brew Day

Well the bullet is bitten and the Wort is now nicely boiling away. I can recommend this basic Peco boiler, It is chugging away nicely on a rolling boil, not too much. The other advantage over the old Bruheat I used to use is the size and diameter, it is a full 33 litre and doesn't give the...

    Soon Young Jedi Soon

Okay Wednesday is brewday. I received 10 KG Maris Otter, 1 KG Crystal, and 1 KG of Flaked Maize. 200g of Fuggles, 100g of East Kent Goldings 100g of Northern Brewer and a packet of Safale (the UK one I don't remember the number) That will do three lots, 1 Theakstone's as per the old...

    Four Finger Jack

I'm not going to do a traditional review here simply because the form is that new reviews go on tagged on the end of old ones. What I will say I have enjoyed this brew so much that before I have finished one I have stared another brew. I think that says it all. However in about 6 weeks I will...

    Experienced Numptie needs advice

Hi gang, So I've been brewing for more years than I care to admit, I was helping Dad before the age of 10. So I have always worked what we might call the old fangled route, a week or so in the FV and bottle or Keg. Now I am learning that isn't right, someone has even recently said never...

    APA's

So I'm new to APA type beers and I don't quite know what to make of them. Goose Island, wow love it, one of the things I love in AG brewing is the moment that you open a new bag of hops and the aroma really surrounds you Goose Island reminds me of that moment. Sierra Nevada I've tried the...

    Target replacement

Hi there I'm looking at putting together my first three batch order from Get Er Brewed However one of the recipes I was going to use calls for target hops and they don't do them except as a pellet teabag. I know how to do an alpha acid comparison to get the amount of the new hop but I am...

    Wherry Interesting

Okay so I'm going on a bit about Wherry at the moment but I really think I have to report this. I have had a wherry in the barrel for some time couple of months or so and have just drawn the last 3 or so pints. It tastes like hoppy chimay. I think the heat has drawn some esters out of the...
