Red (Barollo) 11 day ferment ?

I have made this and it is quite superb. We love it. And yes, it does ferment quickly. I used the yeast supplied.

How do I work out strength?!? New to this!

Although if you just used the 4 litres of juice and didn't top up with water, then it will probably be stronger. The calculations were for a gallon which is around 4.5 litres

How do I work out strength?!? New to this!

First you need to work out how many grams of sugar you started with. On the cartons of juice, it will tell you how much sugar is in there (probably says per 100ml then multiply by 10) Total all the carton sugar with the 500gms of added sugar. At a rough guess there may be 580g sugar in the...

    Back sweetening

I sweeten my cider in the glass before drinking. I use my home-made elderflower cordial. Ribena is good too. Or you could sweeten in the bottle with a no-sugar cordial. Robinsons do a double strength apple cordial. I would think that this would give an extra hit of apple. I am going to try this...

    Back sweetening

I use Glycerine to sweeten wine and it is extremely sweet. I buy it at Boots in 200ml bottles. The bottle is labelled Glycerin with Glycerol in brackets. £1.29 for 200ml

out of date wine kits.............. worth doing?

I would imagine that you would only have to replace the yeast. I am sure that whatever is in the cans will be just fine

    WOW , TC and Raspberryade

No I don't add sugar. The cordial has more than enough sugar! Hence, don't put it into glass bottles. I suppose an alternative and less explosive version would be to prime the TC as usual and then add the cordial to the glass on pouring. :drunk:

    Bottle Bomb!!

You must have a big fridge. Barely room for food in my fridge without trying to get 30 bottle in

    WOW , TC and Raspberryade

Really, really good - just don't put it in glass bottles! Built up lots of pressure in the pet bottles but I wouldn't think a glass bottle would be safe :!: . Also proves the theory wrong that you need to boil cordials to drive off preservatives.

    WOW , TC and Raspberryade

This is what I do with my TC. 4 litres of apple juice, some sugar , cider yeast and tannin all in a demijohn. Starts to clear after a week. THEN, I bottle into 1 litre pets - 2 for me and 2 for DH. He likes his not too sweet and not too sparkly so 1 teaspoon sugar in the pet and leave for a few...

    spun dry cider.

Couldn't be much further away form you Neil! Cumbria. The orchard is in the grounds of an old farmhouse which has been developed into offices. You have to fight your way through loads of thistles and brambles and nettles to get to the apples! Thanks for the welcome Joyce

    spun dry cider.

Really interested in this method. I have managed to get a spin-drier off Freecycle. Now just need a shredder! We have 6 large apple trees in the garden plus access to an old apple orchard which has loads of different apple trees. They just go to waste as nobody picks them. (Well I am the only...
